This Preliminary Information communication provides information to the technician about vehicles that the blower motor may be noisy or vibrate when running. This concern will only occur when the temperatures is below 32 degrees Fahrenheit and if the blower motor is removed while still cold, ice may be found on the blower motor cage. This concern could be caused by water leaking or snow ingestion into the Heater-Vent-Air Conditioning case. Technician is to perform normal water testing diagnostics while the Heater-Vent-Air Conditioning is running, looking for water leaking past the plenum cover. If water is leaking past the cover remove the cover and install a 12x12 snow resistant screen to the fresh air intake. Reseal and install the plenum cover cap using Kent air dry sealer or equivalent.

The Chassis Control Module can be sensitive to a variety of trailer wiring issues. The technician will need to make a trailer tester using Electric Trailer Brake Magnets and 7-way trailer connector to determine if it is a vehicle or trailer issue. If the concern is not duplicated with the tester installed, the vehicle is operating correctly and the focus should be on the trailer wiring or 7 way connector.

Special Coverage. Certain vehicles equipped with a 6.6L diesel engine (RPO L5P), may have a condition that could cause the engine glow plugs to fail. If this condition occurs, the Malfunction Indicator Light (Check Engine Light) will illuminate and a diagnostic trouble code will set. Additionally, the engine may be hard to start or the engine may run rough immediately following engine start. Dealers are to replace the glow plugs as necessary. The repairs will be made at no charge to the customer.

Emission Recall. General Motors has decided to conduct a voluntary emissions recall involving certain vehicles equipped with a performance air intake system (LPO RVK or 5W7). The Engine Control Module (ECM) may not have been programmed with the calibrations appropriate for the performance air intake system installed on the engine in these vehicles. Dealers will reprogram the ECM.

Customer Satisfaction Program. Certain vehicles, may have a condition in which the engine oil cooler (EOC) lines may leak and detach from the crimp joints. Exposure to cold temperature may also aggravate this condition. If the EOC lines leak, there may be an oil leak on the ground and if the EOC lines detach while operating the vehicle, there will be an immediate decrease in oil pressure. This will coincide with a warning on the driver information center display (?Oil Pressure Low Turn Vehicle Off?), along with warning chimes. If the customer continues to operate the vehicle, a loss of propulsion is possible. Dealers are to replace the engine oil cooler lines, oil, oil filter and refill the coolant.
