Some customers may complain about an instrument cluster warning message "Auto Light System Malfunction. Turn On/Off Lights Manually". DTC B10AD:09 (Humidity sensor/solar radiation sensor/auto light sensor/rain sensor malfunction) may also be stored with the exterior light warning indicator light ON. This is caused by the rain sensor detecting a temperature higher than the operation range and temporarily stopping the auto light system. As a fail-safe, the low beam headlights are turned on. The auto light system will start to operate normally when the A/C is turned on and the interior temperature drops. To correct this concern, the heat resistance performance of the rain sensor has been enhanced.

NHTSA source summary · Original PDF not reviewed by Recallfolio

Effective immediately, MSP56 has been suspended until further notice. MSP56 was launched to prevent 2019 Mazda3 5dr vehicles from locking, if the keys are left inside the vehicle. There have been reports of Body Control Module (BCM) failures during the update process, and in the worst case scenario, a loss of vehicle mileage in the odometer. Until further notice, DO NOT update or reflash the Body Control Module (BCM) or LFU using MDARS unless directed by the Technical Hotline. Claims will not be accepted with repair dates beyond 12/16/2019. If the keys are accidentally locked in the vehicle because MSP56 was not performed, the liftgate opener will still open the liftgate and the keys can be accessed through the rear hatch.

MSP27

NHTSA communication ID: 10168122

NHTSA source summary · Original PDF not reviewed by Recallfolio

Mazda Motor Corporation has decided to conduct a Mazda Service Program (MSP) on certain 2019 Mazda3 5HB vehicles produced from November 6, 2018 through May 28, 2019. Concern Outline: On certain subject Mazda3 5HB vehicles with the advanced keyless function, all doors, fuel filler door, and the liftgate can be locked by pressing the door-lock switch on the liftgate. If the liftgate door-lock switch is pressed with the transmitter/key left inside the vehicle, all doors will lock and cannot be unlocked from the outside. The liftgate can be unlocked using the liftgate opener because of the lock-in prevention function. This was the original design of the vehicle with advanced keyless function, but the original design does not match customer’s expectation. It is difficult to retrieve the keys inside the vehicle through the liftgate especially if the rear seats are blocked (with two child seats, luggage etc.). Action Required: Reprogram the body control module (BCM) and low-frequency control unit (LFU) with M-MDS using Mazda Diagnostic and Repair Software (MDARS) for all affected Mazda3 5HB vehicles in dealer inventory, and when customers bring their vehicles for maintenance, or other service/warranty work. The subject vehicles should not be delivered to customers until the repair of MSP56 is completed. Please inform the customer that the BCM and LFU will be reprogrammed to the modified calibration, free of charge. The modified calibration prevents the vehicle from being locked if the keys are still inside. The dealer inventory list will be posted to MGSS by the end of today. Inventory vehicles sold with MSP56 in open status will have any PDI New Car Ready claim debited.

Some customers may complain about poor heater performance even after the engine reaches normal operating temperature. This may be caused by a plugged heater core. For 2014-2016 Mazda6 and 2013-2016 (US spec) / 2017 (Mexico spec) CX-5, the CHECK ENGINE light may turn on with DTC P011A:00 (ECT sensor No.1/No.2 performance problem) stored at the same time. NOTE: Refer to TSB 01-015/15 if the customer is using a block heater at temperatures below freezing. To solve this concern, two mass production changes have been implemented. a) The concentration of the coolant has been increased so that the amount of the contained anti-rust additive is higher. b) The composition of the coolant has been changed (the ratio of the anti-rust additive has increased).

On 7th generation vehicle (2019-2020 Mazda3 (BP) and 2020 CX-30 (DM)), when the door is opened/closed with the ignition switch off, the battery current is approximately 7A, which is three times larger than previous generation models (2.5A on Mazda6 (GL)). In addition, after the door is closed, a 6A current continues for 6 minutes on 7th generation vehicles. This is why frequent door operation in the show room may result in low battery voltage. To avoid a drained battery, especially when the vehicle is displayed for customers in a show room (with door operation being more frequent and battery consumption being larger), it is highly recommended to perform more frequent battery maintenance than for previous generation models.

Some customers may experience one or both of the following: The “Next Service Date” setting under Vehicle Status Monitor in the center display changes to “Manual” by itself after being set to “Automatic” and even with the “Manual” setting in the display, the internal calculation works as if set to “Automatic”. The “Engine oil change” message is then displayed when the oil deterioration level reaches the threshold. This is caused by a communication error between the PCM, BCM and CMU. The average fuel economy display in the instrument cluster gradually gets worse after 1,200 miles (2,000 km) of driving without a reset regardless of the actual driving situation. This concern is only present in the display and not in the actual fuel consumption. To correct these issues, the software of the BCM has been modified.

2014-2016 Mazda3 – Mazda Connect Touch Screen Concern. Warranty Extension Program – Special Service Program (SSP) B6. Mazda Motor Corporation has decided to conduct a Special Service Program (SSP) to extend the warranty coverage for a concern regarding the Mazda Connect Center Display on certain 2014-2016 Mazda3 vehicles produced from June 11, 2013 through September 3, 2016. The warranty coverage for an applicable repair has been extended to 7 years (84 months) from the original warranty start date, with no mileage limitation. If you are a recipient of this notice, your vehicle is included in this warranty extension program. What is the problem? On certain 2014-2016 Mazda3 vehicles, the Mazda Connect touch screen in the center display may not accept touch commands properly or may operate by itself (ghost touch). The film inside the touch screen may be corroded due to moisture, which might adhere on the lens of the touch screen. This corrosion may cause the malfunction of the touch screen. This warranty extension program applies only to the repair of the center display with this concern.

A musty/mildew type odor may come from the vents when the air conditioning (A/C) system is operating. It is most noticeable when the A/C is first turned ON. This odor is the result of mold growth in the A/C evaporator/cooling unit which is caused by condensation, dust, and pollen within the cooling unit. This condition is usually worse during high humidity conditions. "Mazda Air Cooling Coil Coating" is available to encapsulate the mold to reduce odors. If the product is properly applied, it can effectively reduce the musty/mildew odor for up to three years.

Some customers may experience that the MAZDA CONNECT unexpectedly announces the speed limit when the Connectivity Master Unit (CMU) wakes up, regardless of the ignition switch position (ON / ACC / OFF). The speed limit is announced when the vehicle is unlocked and a door is opened (waking up the CMU) without touching the start button. This concern occurs on the vehicles located in Canada and Mexico including those driven to and from the U.S. It is caused by improper CMU software and the unnecessary speed limit announcement function left activated at the factory. Some customers may complain of condensation/fog inside the front (headlamp/headlight) or rear (taillamp/taillight) combination lights. The recent new models have been fitted with a clear lens which can cause the symptom to be more noticeable, however, it does not affect the performance of the light. This condensation/fog is a natural phenomenon that occurs when there is a fairly large temperature difference between the inside and the outside of the light housing. It is normal for very small water drops to appear in certain locations on the light units where the air is stagnant (condensation), making the lens look whitish (fog). This happens mostly in the corners and narrow spaces, and will typically clear during warmer ambient temperatures, or when the lights have been on for some time.

Some customers may complain that their seat warmers do not turn on when the engine is restarted after being left on when turning off the engine. The logic has changed from previous Mazdas where the seat warmers automatically turned on when the engine was restarted. Customers in cold weather are more likely to complain about this if their vehicle is equipped with Mazda Mobile Start (MMS) because the MMS accessory instructions state the seat warmers WILL turn on when the engine is restarted. This information is incorrect for these vehicles. NOTE: The instructions in the vehicle owner's manual are correct.

In accordance with Federal regulations, follow the procedure listed below when replacing a speedometer. NOTE: Tampering with a motor vehicle odometer is strictly prohibited by Federal, and State laws. It is the dealer's responsibility to comply with Federal, State, and local laws concerning odometer and related documentation requirements when providing a repair or replacement. Mazda vehicles are manufactured with tamper-proof speedometers. When a speedometer is replaced, the new speedometer will read zero (0) miles. This procedure is extremely important to accurately represent actual vehicle mileage. Prior to speedometer removal, complete the information required on the "Speedometer Replacement Label". Labels can only be ordered through Mazda eStore. In an effort to achieve a higher level of Customer Experience and retain the value of Mazda's vehicles, MNAO Warranty Operations is allowing all Mazda dealers to utilize a third party, SPECMO Enterprises, Inc., for Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) odometer setting service. With the use of SPECMO's services, it is possible that the odometer will be set between 10 to 31 miles over the odometer mileage at the time of replacement for both warranty and customer pay repairs. Please make sure that the customer is aware that there may be a slight variance to the odometer, in which case the customer may have to accept the slightly higher mileage. Since odometer setting service is not part of the warranty repair, it is not warrantable nor required, but optional. However, Mazda Warranty policy provides after-warranty assistance (AWA) or DSA that can be utilized to cover this service expense.

Some vehicles may experience stains appearing on the hood, roof and/or trunk of the vehicle. This concern is most likely to be found in cold weather areas just after the RAPGARD is removed at PDI. This may be caused by moisture which has been trapped and condensed between the paint and the RAPGARD. These types of stains can be removed with a heat gun or an infrared drier. If you encounter this concern during PDI, use a heat gun or an infrared drier to apply heat to the affected area to remove the stain(s).
