This Preliminary Information communication provides information to the technician for a vehicle setting both a P2635 and P018B diagnostic trouble codes. The following steps may help to determine if this is caused by a fuel pressure sensor not reading the low end of the pressure range. Technician is to make sure the engine is cold and install the Multiple Diagnostic Interface along with Global Diagnostic System 2. Navigate to fuel system depressurize and at engine idle depressurize the fuel system. The fuel pressure sensor value should drop to 0 and the engine will stall. If a sensor is causing this concern the suspected sensor will not drop to 0 the engine will stall however the sensor will still read 30 to 40 pounds per square inch.

For vehicles with Regular Production Option Code NP0 and only have a Diagnostic Trouble Code C0398 stored in the transfer case control module, the technician should insure the transfer case control module calibrations are up-to-date in Tis2Web.

Technician will need to bring the engine to 214 Fahrenheit or 100 Celsius. After the engine is up to temperature the oil pressure at idle should be recorded. Then run the engine at 1100 revolutions per minute for 45 seconds and record the oil pressure. Then run the engine at 3500 revolutions per minute for 45 seconds and record the oil pressure. Technician will now need to run the engine at 1400 revolutions per minute using Global Diagnostic System 2 command the oil control valve on and off 10 times on the 11th time record the reading on and off. Technician will now need to run the engine at 2500 revolutions per minute using Global Diagnostic System 2 command the oil control valve on and off 10 times on the 11th time record the reading on and off. Also record if any repairs were made previously for this concern. Technician will now call General Motors Technical Assistance Center with the findings of the test.
