Tech Tips (Comfort Module (J393) or BCM (J519) Replacement): This document informs If a comfort or body control module is replaced during normal diagnosis, make sure the factory mode has been switched OFF. This can be accomplished by selecting the test plan through GFF or through Vehicle Self Diagnosis in adaptation channel 99. Failure to deactivate factory mode will create a concern where the door locks will not lock and/or unlock with the switch and/or the remotes.

Technical Bulletin (Oil Consumption Measurement): Customer states oil consumption is higher than the Volkswagen oil consumption standard of up to 0.5 quarts per 600 miles, or 0.5 liters per 1000 km. In order to provide effective lubrication and cooling of internal engine components, all internal combustion engines consume a certain amount of engine oil. Oil consumption varies from engine to engine and may change significantly over the life of the engine. Typically, engines with specified break-in periods consume more oil during the break-in period, and the oil consumption will stabilize after the break-in period. Refer to the Owners Manual for specific break-in procedures. Under normal conditions, the rate of oil consumption depends on the quality and viscosity of the oil, the RPM at which the engine is operated, the ambient temperature and road conditions. Further factors include the amount of oil dilution from water condensation or fuel residue and the oxidation level of the oil. This document discusses the "Fault Codes" necessary to diagnosis, and potential remedy of the issue. The fault codes for checking warranty coverage for servicing the vehicle are also available.

Incorrect torque converter or flywheel/flexplate installation can result in transmission damage. When installing an engine, flywheel or transmission, please follow the installation procedures outlined in ELSA. For the flywheel/flexplate, please be certain the correct shim is installed between it and the crankshaft (reference VWIQ120). When installing a torque converter, press the torque converter hub through the seal as far as the first stop. Turn the torque converter while pushing toward the transmission using light force, until the cut outs in the torque converter hub lock into the pump wheel plate. The torque converter slides in. The torque converter is installed correctly if it is easy to turn by hand and if it fits evenly in the transmission bell housing. Additionally, it should spin freely when the transmission bell housing bolts are torqued to the engine block, prior to installation of the flywheel to converter bolts (reference VWIQ121).

Technical Bulletin (Washer Level Sensor): The issue is caused by the outside influence of non-approved formulated washer fluids. Non-approved washer fluids leave a clear film coating on the sensor probes, insulating the probes so they cannot read the fluid level. This This document informs Validate the washer reservoir is full with the proper washer solvent. Refer to Elsa for proper fluid type and fluid quantities under repair manual, maintenance, fluid capacity table. Non-approved fluids can cause residues to form on the sensor which causes the washer fluid lamp to remain on when reservoir is full. The document also contains a photo of the sensor and an example of an approved cleanser
