This Preliminary Information communication provides information to the technician about vehicles with erratic or hesitation when opening and closing the power lift gate. There may be a diagnostic trouble code B153A set in the power lift gate module. This concern could occur if the left lift gate actuator is internally coming apart. The actuator will need to be replaced however care must be taken when removing the actuator from the vehicle. If the internal portion of the actuator had completely separated the end of the actuator could become a projectile when removed. Obtain a number 8 self-tapping screw that measures 1 ½ inches long. Fully open the lift gate and install the screw anywhere in a 30 millimeter space from the bottom of the smooth tube to secure the tubes. Continue with the lift gate actuator by following the lift gat power assist actuator procedure in service information.

Also no radio, OnStar, or speech audio and the volume is unable to be adjusted from the integrated center stack or the steering wheel controls. The driver information center will show ?No Audio? in Audio mode. Technician will need to inspect X275 for bent terminals, terminals backing out of the connector, or terminals contacting another terminal behind each side of the connector and repair as necessary.

Technician should turn off the ignition and cancel retained accessory power. After the vehicle has powered down remove power to the OnStar module for five minutes. After the power has been removed for five minutes, if the OnStar system is working release the vehicle. Technician will need to check the battery voltage while trying to crank the engine. Replace the battery if it fails the GR8 test. A dual-pulse injection strategy is utilized during engine cold start to reduce the time required to bring the catalytic converter up to operating temperature. This split injection strategy lasts for about 60 seconds on cold start. This process may cause the customer to see increased black smoke during cold start and should be considered normal.

This Preliminary Information communication provides information to the technician how to diagnose and repair vehicles with an engine that runs with an intermittent crank no start with a Diagnostic Trouble Code P0011 or P00C6 current or history. Technician will need to use Global Diagnostic System 2 to actuate the cam phaser solenoid 4 or 5 times then try starting the vehicle. Then disable the ignition and fuel system. After the ignition and fuel system are disabled try to start the engine. Technician can now unplug the camshaft actuator to perform the following. Install a 20A fused jumper wire between the terminal 2 and 12V. Tickle/tap the low reference terminal 1 to ground on the cam actuator magnet, while cranking the engine over. When the engine starts and runs the cam actuator or oil control valve does not need to be replaced.

Technician verifies there are no Diagnostic Trouble Codes are present in the Antilock Braking System and Vehicle Communication Interface Module of the vehicle. If no Diagnostic Trouble Codes found call OnStar using the Blue button on the OnStar key pad and ask the advisor for a turn by turn route. Also make a OnStar personal call and a call into the vehicle.
