IPC Odometer Programming Method Quick Reference Guide Season Odometer Programming Methods in Use Today 1. IPC reprogramming and setup using the service programming system (SPS). 2. Odometer setup at the electronic service center (ESC) when using an exchange IPC/DIC. 3. Tech 2® The Tech 2 is used to set up a replacement BCM, which includes loading the odometer value that is displayed and stored in the IPC. A replacement IPC will display the previously stored vehicle odometer value, communicated from the BCM, after cycling the ignition or driving the vehicle. *The odometer programming is integrated as part of the BCM programming procedure. It is not a stand-alone event.

Information on Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) Filling Instructions, Frozen Tank Status and General Information In operating temperatures of 15°F (−9°C) or less, customers may comment on an Exhaust Fluid Range message displaying on the DIC even though the DEF fluid has been filled. When the DEF is frozen, the level sensor cannot determine the fluid level in the tank. If this occurs the logic of the PCM will assume a default fluid level. The logic will use the calculated range based on DEF dosing history and the assumed fluid level. If there is a high learned dosing rate and the fluid has not thawed to where the pins of the level sensor can function, there is a possibility the Exhaust Fluid Range message can set with the range from approximately 1609 km (1000 mi) to less than 482 km (300 mi), even though the tank is known to have fluid or be full. This is an operating characteristic of the system. However to increase or eliminate the range message, once the range drops below 482 km (300 mi), the DEF tank should be refilled. This should allow refill detection to occur and turn off the range indicator. The operator must be sure not to overfill the DEF tank using the instructions provided in this bulletin or in the owners manual. When in frozen tank status, refill detections are not allowed until the warning strategy reaches the point at which the distance remaining is less than 482 km (300 mi). The refill detection is dependent on the DEF thawing enough that the level sensor pins can be read. A fully frozen tank can take almost an hour to detect a refill, after the vehicle is started. This condition should not be confused with the situation described in PIP4864: Low Or Speed Limited Diesel Exhaust Fluid Message (DEF) Will Not Reset.

Technician will need to use Pico Oscilloscope Diagnostic Kit to effectively diagnosis vehicles. Technician should drive the vehicle will using the Pico Oscilloscope to record data. After the data is recorded it should be reviewed to determine the root cause of the concern. If a repair attempt made the concern better but not eliminated or had no affect at all, and are requesting assistance from General Motors Technical Assistance Center record another Pico file and save it to the computer. After the new Pico Oscilloscope data has been saved email the data to General Motors Technical Assistance Center in the subject line include ?Vibration? ?Business Associate Code? and the last 8 of the Vehicle Identification Number.

This Preliminary Information communication provides information to the technician about vehicles that may have "Exhaust Fluid Low", "Exhaust Fluid Empty - Refill Now", "Exhaust Fluid Range: XXX" or "Service Exhaust Fluid - See Owners Now" on the Driver Information Center. If the technician is working on 2010 and 2011 model years campaign 11001 has now been released. Other vehicles technician will need to check the Body Control Module and the scan tool to insure the latest calibration are installed in both. Then use the scan tool to check Reductant System Data in the Engine Control Module. Ensure that all three diesel exhaust fluid level sensors are active with the diesel exhaust fluid tank level showing 100%. If the tank level is below 100% add up to 2 gallons of diesel exhaust fluid. After adding the fluid, use a scan tool to reset the reductant fluid tank level. When the reductant level warning shows "none" the diesel exhaust fluid system reset and reprogram is complete.

This Preliminary Information communication provides information to the technician about vehicles that have a lack of power on initial acceleration from a stop when the ambient temperature is approximately 103 Fahrenheit or greater and may include engine detonation or pre-ignition type events as temperatures approach 120 Fahrenheit. Technician will need to perform published Service Information diagnosis first. If Service Information diagnosis does not isolate the cause of this concern, take a Tech 2 snapshot of the concern happening and note the Spark Parameter in the Ignition Data List. If it drops near/below 0 degrees during the concern, check if there is a cylinder that shows any knock. If there is a knock in any cylinder perform a top engine clean. If the concern is still present, then switching to premium fuel (91 octane or higher) with detergents (Top tier fuel) when ambient temperatures exceed 110 Fahrenheit degrees, this should provide a slight improvement in engine performance when ambient temperatures are high especially as temperatures approach 120 Fahrenheit degrees.

Technician may find Diagnostic Trouble Code DTCs P0087, P0088, P0191 or P128E. Technician will need to follow all Service Information diagnose for the Diagnostic Trouble Code. If the current Service Information diagnostic has led to Fuel Injection Pump replacement, Fuel Pressure Regulator 1 must be inspected for magnetic metal debris. If there is a questionable amount of magnetic debris found on Pressure Regulator 1 remove the Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor and/or Fuel Pressure Regulator 2 to inspect for magnetic metal debris. If technician will need to replace all of the parts listed under the latest version of PIP4949 found in the Service Forms section of Global Connect if debris is found. Clean and flush all fuel chassis lines, filter pipes, and other engine mounted fuel system pipes not replaced. Also the fuel filter housing must be cleaned with a new fuel filter installed. Then the fuel tank and fuel sender must be cleaned and flushed.

This Preliminary Information communication provides additional information to the technician when replacing the Duramax Diesel head gasket. This is a supplement to procedure found in Service Information. The left and right cylinder head gaskets are not interchangeable and will block oil and coolant passages if installed incorrectly resulting in severe damage to the engine. Technician is not use any power sanding devices, wire brush or wheel as well as any chemical cleaning agents to clean the gasket surface. Leave the gaskets in the package until the surfaces are ready to install them. Do not set the gaskets on workbenches or tool boxes to avoid introduction of foreign debris. The cylinder head surface is not to be machined measure the head for warpage with a straight edge and feeler gauge replacing the head with warpage in excess of .1 millimeter. All M12 head bolts must be replaced however the M8 bolts can be reused. Install 2 head bolts secured at minimal torque to minimize the chance of introducing foreign material. Use a paint pen on the M12 bolts marking the head of each bolt indicating which of the 4 torque steps have been completed to prevent missing a step or doing a step twice.
