This Preliminary Information communication provides information to the technician on the steps need to diagnose and repair vehicles that may have stalling shudder and/or hard shifting into 1st gear or reverse vibration on launch (with excessive crankshaft end play). Technician will test to determine if the crank shaft end play is within specification 0.0015–0.0086 inch. If end play is found to be out of specification, remove engine and inspect for possible crankshaft thrust bearing and/or crankshaft for wear. Inspect thrust bearing for wear on one side and crankshaft on that “mating” surface. If the thrust bearing has three vertical channels worn off replace connecting rod bearings, main bearings, thrust bearing and crankshaft. If working on a Corvette the oil tank with lines and oil cooler are both required to be replaced if equipped

Clicking Noise from Front Wheels While Turning at Slow Speeds Condition Some customers may comment on a clicking noise emanating from the front wheels location. This condition may be more predominant at low speeds (10-20 mph or 16-32 km/h) during full wheel lock turns on dry clean pavement. This Preliminary Information communication provides information to the technician on using the correct oil when changing the oil on a Corvette with regular production option code Z51, LT1, LT4, Z52, Z06, and non Z51 with LT1. Technician is to use Mobil 1 for all Chevrolet complete care program oil changes on 2014-2015 model year corvettes. General Motors has changed the required maintenance schedule on all 2014 through 2015 Z51 and Z06 Corvettes equipped with a dry sump system. The new schedule requires an oil and filter change immediately after the break-in period which is after the first 500 miles. An additional oil change has been added to the Chevrolet Complete Care Program to cover this break-in oil change.

The concern is present when coasting at low speeds of less than 15 miles per hour and then aggressively applying the throttle, or after making a hard stop followed by an aggressive throttle. This is considered normal operation of the vehicle the throttle is delayed and opened slowly up to .7 seconds to help minimize driveline lash and clunking or will have approximately .5 seconds of zero torque to allow the transmission to shift to first gear.
