This Preliminary Information communication provides information to the technician about vehicles that have an intermittent ratchet, grind, or Antilock Braking System pump motor noises heard from the front of the vehicle when traveling in a straight line at slow speeds, usually under 20 mph. Technician should not replace the Electronic Brake Control Module or Brake Pressure Modulator Valve for this concern. Technician will need to review the Antilock Braking Data using Global Diagnostic System 2 while duplicating the concern. If three miles per hour or greater variance is detected in one or more data session logs, technician will need to inspect the wheel speed sensor and hub bearing with the variance.

Technician should inspect the ignition key cylinder door sticks in the up position. If the door is found open do not replace the ignition key cylinder, use a Lubriplate type of lubrication spray and lubricate the ignition key cylinder door. Insert the tip of the key in and out to verify the door of the cylinder is not sticking.

Technician should turn off the ignition and cancel retained accessory power. After the vehicle has powered down, remove power to the OnStar module for five minutes. After the power has been removed for five minutes, if the OnStar system is working release the vehicle. This Preliminary Information communication provides information to the technician on how to diagnose and repair vehicles that may have the Antilock Braking System, Service Traction Control System, and/or Service Stabilitrak lights are on. The Electronic Brake Control Module may have one or more of the following Diagnostic Trouble Codes C0035-C0050 with specifically symptom 18, 5A, or 0F. Technician will gain access to the correct wheel bear per the Diagnostic Trouble Code that is set. If debris is found on the magnetic encoder ring it will needed to be cleaned.

This Preliminary Information communication provides the technician with the following steps to correct a moan noise from the rear axle during cold turning maneuvers. This noise might start to be noticed as the vehicle accumulates over 3000 miles. The technician is to perform the following steps. 1. With original lube in axle, conduct Freeway Speeds for 10 miles to warm up lube. 2. Immediately drain original lube and refill with fresh lube. 3. In parking lot lock steering to the right, and then execute 5 Full Circles at (5-10 mph). 4. . In parking lot lock steering to the left, and then execute 5 Full Circles at (5-10 mph). 5. Perform 4 Figure 8?s at (5-10 mph). 6. Freeway Speeds for 20 miles until operating temperature is achieved. 7. In parking lot lock steering to the right, and then execute 5 Full Circles at (5-10 mph). 8. In parking lot lock steering to the left, and then execute 5 Full Circles at (5-10 mph). 9. Perform 4 Figure 8?s at (5-10 mph). 10. Immediately drain current lube in axle and refill with fresh lube. 11. Perform Steps 3 thru 9 again. 12. Immediately drain current lube in axle and refill with fresh lube. Proceed with steps 2 through 9 two times, for a total of 3 drain and fill procedures. This should only be done for a moan noise from the rear axle during cold start turning maneuvers. During regular maintenance the fluid only needs to be changed one time.

This Preliminary Information communication provides information to the technician about vehicles that have a under hood odor that is coming from the engine coolant. Technician will need to completely drain the cooling system and refill it is with drinkable water and one bottle of GM Heavy Duty Cooling System Cleaner. After the cooling system is completely full drive the vehicle for 40-60 minutes with the heat on high. Technician should allow the engine to cool then completely drain the cooling system. After the cooling system is completely drained, fill the cooling system with water and run the engine for 10 minutes to circulate the water. Technician should allow the engine to cool then completely drain the cooling system. After the cooling system is completely drained, technician will also need to remove the surge tank and thoroughly clean it with hot water. Now install the clean surge tank and fill the cooling system with water and run the engine for 10 minutes to circulate the water. Technician should completely drain the cooling system and replace all the cooling hoses. Technician will install the thermostat using a new water pump inlet seal. After the new hoses and thermostat is installed fill the cooling system with Premixed DEX-Cool or a 50 / 50 DEX-Cool water mixture.
