Some Golf, GTI, Jetta, and Passat vehicles equipped with electromechanical power steering have the G85 steering angle sensor located in the steering rack. These vehicles do not have a G85 in the steering column. To determine G85 location, check the J500 Power steering control module part number in the GFF printout. Do not use the part number on the steering rack for this check.

Technical Bulletin (Air Conditioning, Cleaning of the Refrigerant Circuit): In cases where an air conditioning system component (such as a compressor or other system component) has failed and debris from the compressor or component is circulated throughout the refrigerant circuit, the refrigerant circuit must be cleaned of any and all debris or damage to the replacement components will result. Debris can be dispersed throughout the refrigerant circuit after a/c component damage. In order to maintain A/C operating efficiency, it is important to flush the refrigerant circuit after A/C component repairs.

Tech Tips (Comfort Module (J393) or BCM (J519) Replacement): This document informs if a comfort or body control module is replaced during normal diagnosis, make sure the factory mode has been switched OFF. This can be accomplished by selecting guided function of either the J393 or J519 or control module OBD of J393 or J519 then selecting adaptation channel 99. Failure to deactivate factory mode will create a concern where the door locks will not lock and/or unlock with the switch and/or the remotes.

Replacement AC compressors come with a full charge of oil. Any time another compressor is installed with a different vendor (such as Sanden to Denso) it is necessary to replace all the oil in the system to the new vendor type PAG oil. Incorrect torque converter or flywheel/flexplate installation can result in transmission damage. When installing an engine, flywheel or transmission, please follow the installation procedures outlined in ELSA. For the flywheel/flexplate, please be certain the correct shim is installed between it and the crankshaft (reference VWIQ120). When installing a torque converter, press the torque converter hub through the seal as far as the first stop. Turn the torque converter while pushing toward the transmission using light force, until the cut outs in the torque converter hub lock into the pump wheel plate. The torque converter slides in. The torque converter is installed correctly if it is easy to turn by hand and if it fits evenly in the transmission bell housing. Additionally, it should spin freely when the transmission bell housing bolts are torqued to the engine block, prior to installation of the flywheel to converter bolts (reference VWIQ121).
