Technical Bulletin (HVAC, Unpleasant Odor): An unpleasant odor is coming from Heating and Ventilation system. Odor mainly occurs after vehicle has been sitting (unused) at least 5 hours and within 20 to 60 seconds after vehicle is first started. Contaminants are effectively neutralized using the AIRCOMATIC? II Ultrasonic Climate System Cleaner (VAS 6189A) or AIRCOMATIC III Ultrasonic Climate System Cleaner (VAS 6189B) and AIRCO-CLEAN Ultrasonic HVAC Treatment (30208). All other cleaning methods are no longer permitted. This document discusses the "Fault Codes" necessary to diagnosis, and potential remedy of the issue. The fault codes for checking warranty coverage for servicing the vehicle are also available.

Inspect the water pump for signs of contact with engine oil. Engine oil may cause the water pump gasket to swell, which may lead to a coolant leak. If water pump replacement is necessary, ensure that any engine oil is thoroughly cleaned off, prior to water pump installation. Please note that when replacing the water pump or opening the cooling system, there is a special bleed procedure that has to be performed. Vacuum bleed the cooling system for 10 minutes. Start the engine and let idle until the thermostat opens and the cooling fan runs, before driving vehicle or raising engine RPM.

If no communication can be established to the Vehicle electrical system control module J519 (address word 09) in Guided Fault Finding or Vehicle Self Diagnosis, it may be necessary to cycle door locks. It is recommended to cycle both the remote locks and the driver?s door lock switch when attempting to communicate to the module with the scan tool. Ensure all vehicle doors are unlocked before communication is retried.
