This Preliminary Information communication advises the technician about the calculation and operation of the engine oil life monitor. The monitor calculates the percent of oil life remaining, based on 3 pathways. The first pathway for oil life calculation is engine revolutions. The second pathway for oil life calculation is the mileage form the last rest for all General Motors powertrains except the Volt. The third pathway for oil life calculation is the amount of time the oil is in the engine. The Volt uses a 2 year timer instead of 1 year. It also uses the engine revolution counter. It does not use the mileage pathway to count down.

14725A - SERVICE UPDATE (REVISED SERVICE INFORMATION). THIS BULLETIN PROVIDES A SERVICE PROCEDURE TO TIE STRAP THE MAIN AND BCM BRANCHES OF THE BODY HARNESS (NEAR THE FRONT OF DASH PASS-THROUGH INSIDE THE VEHICLE) TOGETHER TO PREVENT THEM FROM COMING IN CONTACT WITH PARK BRAKE BRACKET ON CERTAIN VEHICLES. THESE VEHICLES MAY HAVE EXPOSED BODY HARNESS WIRES IN CLOSE PROXIMITY TO THE PARKING BRAKE BRACKET AT THE FRONT DASH PASS-THROUGH INSIDE THE VEHICLE. THE EXPOSED BODY HARNESS WIRES CAN RUB AGAINST OR BE PINCHED BY THE BRAKE BRACKET. WHILE THERE IS NO EVIDENCE OF THIS HAPPENING IN CUSTOMER VEHICLES, IF THE WIRES WERE TO BE SUFFICIENTLY DAMAGED FROM RUBBING AGAINST OR BEING PINCHED BY THE BRAKE BRACKET, CERTAIN ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS COULD BE AFFECTED. FOR EXAMPLE, SUFFICIENT DAMAGE TO THE WIRES COULD RESULT IN THE LOSS OF VARIOUS EXTERIOR LIGHTS, WIPERS, THE DRIVERS AIRBAG TELLTALE LIGHT, THROTTLE CONTROL, DEFOG CONTROLS, OR TRAILER BRAKE CONTROLS. IN ADDITION, WHILE THERE IS NO EVIDENCE OF ANY STALLS RESULTING FROM THIS CONDITION, IT IS POSSIBLE THAT IF THE RUN/CRANK WIRE WAS SUFFICIENTLY DAMAGED, IT COULD RESULT IN AN ENGINE STALL. DEPENDING ON WHICH CIRCUIT IS DAMAGED, A TELLTALE OR DIC MESSAGE MAY BE DISPLAYED ALERTING THE CUSTOMER THAT AN ISSUE EXISTS.

14725 - Service Update. Tie strap the ?Main? and ?BCM? branches of the body harness (near the front of dash pass-through inside the vehicle) together to prevent them from coming in contact with park brake bracket on certain 2014 and 2015 model year Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra vehicles. For example, sufficient damage to the wires could result in the loss of various exterior lights, wipers, the driver?s airbag telltale light, throttle control, defog controls, or trailer brake controls. In addition, while there is no evidence of any stalls resulting from this condition, it is possible that if the run/crank wire was sufficiently damaged, it could result in an engine stall. Depending on which circuit is damaged, a telltale or DIC message may be displayed alerting the customer that an issue exists.

WHEN THE TRANSFER CASE CONTROL MODULE HAS TO MOVE THE TRANSFER CASE ACTUATOR MOTOR THE HIGHER CURRENT PASSING THROUGH THE MODULE CAUSES AN "ELECTRONIC BUZZ OR WHINE" WITHIN SOME OF THE CAPACITORS IN THE MODULE THAT CAN BE HEARD BY SOME OF OUR CUSTOMERS. THIS CAN ONLY BE HEARD WITH ALL ACCESSORIES AND HVAC OFF AND ONLY WHEN ACTUATOR MOVEMENT IS REQUIRED. THIS DOES NOT INDICATE A CONCERN WITH THE MODULE AND SHOULD NOT BE REPLACED TO ADDRESS THIS CONCERN.
