This Preliminary Information communication provides information to the technician about vehicles that will not charge and Service Engine Soon Malfunction Indicator Lamp on. Technician may find Diagnostic Trouble Codes P0AA6 and/ or a P1F0E set on 2011-2013 Volt or a P0DAA on 2014 Volt or Cadillac ELR in the Hybrid Powertrain Control Module 2. Technician will need to inspect the coolant level in the Hybrid/EV Battery Pack. If the coolant is found low follow published Service Information diagnostics. Technician will need to inspect the Hybrid/EV Battery Pack drain plug, located on the battery tray, regardless of fluid level at the Hybrid/EV Battery Pack coolant reservoir. If any moisture is found during the drain plug inspection, contact the General Motors Technical Assistance Center for further assistance. If the coolant level in cooling system is at the proper level and there is no moisture in the battery during the drain plug inspection, and the coolant freeze protection is between -10 and -40 degrees Fahrenheit, then update the Hybrid Powertrain Control Module2 and Battery Energy Control Module with the latest Calibrations in TIS-2-Web. 14114 - SERVICE UPDATE. THIS BULLETIN PROVIDES A SERVICE PROCEDURE TO CHECK THE COOLANT LEVEL, CHECK FOR ANY LEAKS, AND FILL THE COOLANT TANK TO PROPER HEIGHT. CERTAIN SUBJECT VEHICLES WERE BUILT WITH THE COOLANT VOLUME FILL THAT WAS BELOW THE SPECIFICATION IN THE RECHARGEABLE ENERGY STORAGE SYSTEM (RESS). AS A RESULT, AFTER THE COOLANT SYSTEM PURGES THE AIR IN THE COOLANT LOOP (WHICH MAY TAKE UP TO 12 MONTHS), THE REMAINING COOLANT LEVEL IS LOWER THAN REQUIRED. IF THIS WERE TO OCCUR, A DTC MAY BE SET WITH A DIC MESSAGE, "SERVICE HIGH VOLTAGE CHARGING SYSTEM". IF A CODE IS SET, THE WALL CHARGING SYSTEM WILL BE INACTIVE UNTIL SERVICE IS PERFORMED.

This Preliminary Information communication provides information to the technician the steps to diagnose and repair vehicles that have Check Engine Light illuminated with an "Engine Unavailable" and "Reduced Propulsion" messages on the Driver Information Center. Technician may find Diagnostic Trouble Codes a P0AB9 and P0AC4. Technician should not clear any Diagnostic Trouble Codes and ensure Global Diagnostic System 2 is up to date. Technician will need to use Global Diagnostic System 2 and check all modules for Diagnostic Trouble Codes. Now use Global Diagnostic System 2 to create freeze frame data from Hybrid Powertrain Control Module and the Engine Control Module and save a report. Technician will need to verify that the vehicle had not been run very low or out of fuel. Also verify the customer did not press the Power Button causing the vehicle to turn off while driving. Verify that the Internal Combustion Engine runs properly and no other engine related or communication related Diagnostic Trouble Codes are present. Technician should inquire if the remote star was used on the last two drive cycles before the Diagnostic Trouble Code set. Technician should update the Engine Control Module if so. Technician should inspect the ground locations G106 (engine block) and G113 (drive unit case) have been cleaned and are secure making sure the ground eyelets do not spin. Technician should also check for past service history for prior mechanical engine or wiring harness repairs. Inspect the cam timing connector and repair any damage.
