This Preliminary Information communication provides information to the technician about vehicles that may have a Service 4WD message on the Driver Information Center when operated below 10 degrees Fahrenheit (-12 Celsius). Technician may find C0398 or C0326 stored in the Transfer Case Control Module. If the vehicle had a Diagnostic Trouble Code C0398 in the transfer case control module stored with any other codes such as C0392, C0396, C0306 or other codes related to rotational position sensor or actuator position sensor it is likely that is causing a C0398 to set and replacement of the actuator will likely not repair the vehicle. For vehicles with Regular Production Option Code NP0 and only have a Diagnostic Trouble Code C0398 stored in the transfer case control module, the technician should insure the transfer case control module calibrations are up-to-date in Tis2Web.

14725A - SERVICE UPDATE (REVISED SERVICE INFORMATION). THIS BULLETIN PROVIDES A SERVICE PROCEDURE TO TIE STRAP THE “MAIN” AND “BCM” BRANCHES OF THE BODY HARNESS (NEAR THE FRONT OF DASH PASS-THROUGH INSIDE THE VEHICLE) TOGETHER TO PREVENT THEM FROM COMING IN CONTACT WITH PARK BRAKE BRACKET ON CERTAIN VEHICLES. THESE VEHICLES MAY HAVE EXPOSED BODY HARNESS WIRES IN CLOSE PROXIMITY TO THE PARKING BRAKE BRACKET AT THE FRONT DASH PASS-THROUGH INSIDE THE VEHICLE. THE EXPOSED BODY HARNESS WIRES CAN RUB AGAINST OR BE PINCHED BY THE BRAKE BRACKET. WHILE THERE IS NO EVIDENCE OF THIS HAPPENING IN CUSTOMER VEHICLES, IF THE WIRES WERE TO BE SUFFICIENTLY DAMAGED FROM RUBBING AGAINST OR BEING PINCHED BY THE BRAKE BRACKET, CERTAIN ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS COULD BE AFFECTED. FOR EXAMPLE, SUFFICIENT DAMAGE TO THE WIRES COULD RESULT IN THE LOSS OF VARIOUS EXTERIOR LIGHTS, WIPERS, THE DRIVER’S AIRBAG TELLTALE LIGHT, THROTTLE CONTROL, DEFOG CONTROLS, OR TRAILER BRAKE CONTROLS. IN ADDITION, WHILE THERE IS NO EVIDENCE OF ANY STALLS RESULTING FROM THIS CONDITION, IT IS POSSIBLE THAT IF THE RUN/CRANK WIRE WAS SUFFICIENTLY DAMAGED, IT COULD RESULT IN AN ENGINE STALL. DEPENDING ON WHICH CIRCUIT IS DAMAGED, A TELLTALE OR DIC MESSAGE MAY BE DISPLAYED ALERTING THE CUSTOMER THAT AN ISSUE EXISTS.

This Preliminary Information communication provides information to the technician about vehicles that may have Service 4WD message in the Driver Information Center. During inspection technician may find Diagnostic Trouble Code C0398 or C0326 stored in the Transfer Case Control Module. If the vehicle has Regular Production Option Code NP0 and only has diagnostic trouble code C0398 stored in the Transfer Case Control Module, then use Service Programming System to update the Transfer Case Control Module. When working with vehicles equipped NHQ and NQ6 and setting Diagnostic Trouble Code C0398 when operated in areas where the ambient temperature is below 32 Fahrenheit (0 Celsius) use Global Diagnostic System 2 to review the freeze frame failure records, record all findings and Diagnostic Trouble Codes then clear the DTCs and data. Technician will need to operate the vehicle in all ranges and ensure that no Diagnostic Trouble Codes reset. If the vehicle had a Diagnostic Trouble Code C0398 in the Transfer Case Control Module stored with any other Diagnostic Trouble Code such as C0392, C0396, C0306 or other codes related to rotational position sensor or actuator position sensor it is likely that is causing a C0398 to set and replacement of the actuator will likely not repair the vehicle. If no Diagnostic Trouble Codes reset and C0398 was set without other rotational position sensor, or actuator position sensor Diagnostic Trouble Codes then replace the actuator motor with part number 23355888. Dealer will need to contact General Motors Product Quality Center for further assistance.

14725 - Service Update. Tie strap the ?Main? and ?BCM? branches of the body harness (near the front of dash pass-through inside the vehicle) together to prevent them from coming in contact with park brake bracket on certain 2014 and 2015 model year Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra vehicles. For example, sufficient damage to the wires could result in the loss of various exterior lights, wipers, the driver?s airbag telltale light, throttle control, defog controls, or trailer brake controls. In addition, while there is no evidence of any stalls resulting from this condition, it is possible that if the run/crank wire was sufficiently damaged, it could result in an engine stall. Depending on which circuit is damaged, a telltale or DIC message may be displayed alerting the customer that an issue exists.

Technician will need to check the valve train for movement when the engine is cranked. If the valve train is not moving while the crankshaft is moving the front cover will need to be removed to inspect for a sheared cam sprocket locator pin. If the cam sprocket locator pin has sheared, replace the engine assembly. If the valve train is rotating during inspection, disconnect the Camshaft Position sensor and check if the engine will start. If the engine starts front cover will need to be removed to inspect for a sheared cam sprocket locator pin. If the cam sprocket locator pin has sheared, replace the engine assembly. If the engine does not start with the Camshaft Position sensor disconnected the follow published ?Engine Cranks But Does Not Run? diagnosis in Service Information. Also perform an Engine Compression Test and Cylinder Leakage Test in Service Information documents all results. If the Service Information procedures above isolate an engine mechanical concern then removed to inspect for a sheared cam sprocket locator pin. This Preliminary Information communication provides information to the technician that some vehicles may have a high pitched whine noise from the vehicle noticed when driving in auto 4wd. When the transfer case control module has to move the transfer case actuator motor the higher current passing through the module causes an "electronic buzz or whine" within some of the capacitors in the module that can be heard by some of our customers. This can only be heard with all accessories and HVAC off and only when actuator movement is required. This does not indicate a concern with the module and should not be replaced to address this concern.
