Tech Tips (MDI Functions with iPhone 5 Variants (5, 5c, 5s and iPad fourth generation, iPod Nano seventh generation)): The Apple iPhone 5, iPhone 5c, and iPhone 5s, as well as the iPad 4th generation and iPod Nano 7th generation use a proprietary ?Lightning? connector that is different than the 30-pin dock connector found on previous iPhone and iPad/iPod models. A new MDI cable (?MDI Adapter Cable ? Lightning Charger?) is now available through the VW Accessories eCatalog that is made for use with iPhone 5 variants as well as the previously mentioned iPad/iPod models. This cable should provide full functionality on any vehicle equipped with a UMI (Unified Multimedia Interface). On MY 13 and older vehicles equipped with an MDI, the software level of the MDI must be at or above SW 240 (see Technical Bulletin 2024337) in order to be fully functional.

Technical Bulletin (HVAC, Unpleasant Odor): Unpleasant odor is coming from Heating and Ventilation system. Odor mainly occurs after vehicle has been sitting (unused) at least 5 hours and within 20 to 60 seconds after vehicle is first started. Condensation is a normal characteristic in all A/C systems. If odor is noticeable continue to follow this document. Contaminants are effectively neutralized using the AIRCOMATIC? II Ultrasonic Climate System Cleaner (VAS 6189A) or AIRCOMATIC? III Ultrasonic Climate System Cleaner (VAS 6189B) and AIRCO-CLEAN? Ultrasonic HVAC Treatment (30208). All other cleaning methods are no longer permitted. To detect which line(s) is inoperative, utilize a volt meter to check for 0 V, which will be present after the open in the grid line. The check must be performed with the engine running and heated rear window switched on. Switch OFF the ignition and visually locate the damage. Proceed with checking any other lines as necessary. Once the damaged line is identified, repair utilizing the Repair kit by Permatex® ITEM 09117.

Be aware that the oil temperature gauge (if equipped) will not begin reading until oil temperature reaches approximately 120°F. Additionally, the gauge may appear to fluctuate or drop to 120° during engine warm up in the first 30 minutes of driving. The Oil Temperature display in the MFI may also sporadically show ?---°F? during this warm up period. No repairs are recommended if operation is as described above.
