This bulletin provides new part information and an identification procedure to address a small number of vehicles identified with a sticking secondary hood latch mechanism. The hood latch mechanism is exposed to foreign materials during normal use which can accumulate and cause the secondary portion to not operate properly. The spring-loaded secondary latch is manually released (after pulling the inside hood release lever to operate the primary latch mechanism) by the operator to open the hood. If faulty, the spring may not have enough force to return the lever back to its original position while the hood is open. Once the hood is closed, the secondary latch is forced into the closed position by design.

This bulletin announces a change in the production procedure for the rear muffler assembly. Spot-weld locations securing the outer shell portion have been changed to improve overall rigidity. A gap may develop at the spot welded seam as a result of repeated thermal shock (heating / cooling) which occurs during normal use. The gap does not create an exhaust leak. In some cases, a rattling sound from the muffler may develop.

This repair procedure was previously published in TSB number 07-89-15R. In the interest of customer satisfaction, Subaru of America, Inc. (Subaru) is now initiating a service program for certain 2015 model year Legacy and Outback vehicles as described in this service program bulletin. INTRODUCTION: During ocean transportation of the IG, ACC and EGI Main relays, moisture may be absorbed into them from exposure to very high ambient humidity conditions. During normal operation, this moisture is heated by the relay?s electric coils and evaporated while the engine is running however, it may not all be eliminated. If the vehicle is used in extreme cold temperatures (-20C / -4F), ice crystals may form on the relay?s contacts due to rapid heat radiation after the engine is turned off. As a result, these ice crystals can insulate and prevent electricity from flowing and lead to a contact failure. Should this occur, the engine may fail to start immediately. For example: if the engine is started under extreme cold temperatures, shut-off and left to ?soak? for approximately 20 minutes and then restarted, the described relay freezing / no-start condition may occur requiring several attempts to start the engine.

TSB. The EPB system is designed such that the parking brake will apply upon initial activation and re-apply approximately 150 seconds (2 ½ minutes) after initial activation. Due to improper software programing of the EPB system, if an affected vehicle?s ignition switch is turned to the ?ON? position at the same time the parking brake is re-applying, electric current will be provided continuously to the left rear EPB motor, eventually causing the motor to seize and prevent release of the parking brake. Should the left EPB motor seize, it will be necessary to replace the EPB Motor Gear Unit- EPB LH.

New Service Program: WTB-63 Electronic Parking Brake (EPB). ReprogrammingThe EPB system is designed such that the parking brake will apply upon initial activation and re-apply approximately 150 seconds (2 ½ minutes) after initial activation.

Revised TSB. This bulletin announces the availability of reprogramming files and a revised oil level switch to optimize the ECM logic for engine oil level detection in the event of false or premature low engine oil level warning lamp illumination. Should a customer present a concern with a low engine oil warning lamp illumination and the diagnosis indicate the oil level is full or nearly full (oil level between the full and add marks/holes on the dipstick) and the customer has not added any engine oil, the ECM must be updated with this new logic and the oil level switch specified below replaced. The new oil level switch part number supplied in this bulletin must be used. If the customer has added oil, determine how much was added. Based upon the information provided, estimate where the oil level was when the lamp illuminated in order to determine if additional action is required beyond what is described in this bulletin (e.g an oil consumption test). The ECM must still be updated with this new logic and the oil level switch replaced.

CUSTOMERS MAY REPORT A CONCERN WITH ONE OR BOTH REAR DOORS. IT IS ONLY NECESSARY TO ADDRESS THE SIDE WITH THE CONFIRMED CONDITION. THE DOOR GLASS SASH SEPARATES THE MAIN DOOR GLASS FROM THE SMALL PARTITION GLASS AT THE REAR OF EACH DOOR. THE PROCEDURE INVOLVES REPLACEMENT OF THE REAR DOOR GLASS RUN CHANNEL (WEATHERSTRIP), PARTITION GLASS WEATHERSTRIP, AND BOTH THE INNER AND OUTER DOOR GLASS WEATHERSTRIPS (SWEEPS). IN ADDITION, 3 PRE-CUT PIECES OF SELF-ADHESIVE EPT FOAM, 1 PIECE OF NON-WOVEN TAPE (WILL BE CUT INTO 2 PIECES) AND A 320MM SECTION OF BUTYL TAPE WILL BE ADDED IN SPECIFIC LOCATIONS. TO ADDRESS A CUSTOMER CONCERN OF A FLUTTERING-TYPE NOISE COMING FROM THE B-PILLAR AREA AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, SEE TSB 12-185-15 FOR INSTALLATION OF THE 320MM SECTION OF BUTYL TAPE ONLY.

SUBARU OF AMERICA, INC. WILL BE ISSUING A WARRANTY EXTENSION TO ADDRESS CRACKS OR BREAKAGE IN THE DEICER AREA OF THE WINDSHIELD ON 2015 AND EARLY PRODUCTION 2016 LEGACY AND OUTBACK MODELS EQUIPPED WITH THE ALL WEATHER PACKAGE THAT INCLUDED A WINDSHIELD WIPER DEICER. THIS EXTENSION ALSO COVERS CERTAIN EARLY REPLACEMENT WINDSHIELDS WHICH WERE SIMILARLY AFFECTED. DURING THE WINDSHIELD GLASS MANUFACTURING PROCESS, CERTAIN COMPOUNDS USED TO ADHERE THE DEICER TO THE LOWER PORTION OF THE WINDSHIELD POTENTIALLY CREATED A CONDITION WHERE THE GLASS COULD BECOME MORE SUSCEPTIBLE TO CRACKING FOLLOWING A MINOR WOUND TO THE GLASS DUE TO SOME OUTSIDE FORCE SUCH AS A STONE IMPACT. WHEN THIS OCCURS, THE DAMAGE TO THE GLASS GENERALLY APPEARS VERY MINOR OR MAY EVEN BE INVISIBLE BUT THE GLASS MAY CRACK AS A RESULT. IF THE CRACK ORIGINATES OR PASSES THROUGH THE DEICER (LOWER) AREA OF THE WINDSHIELD THEN THIS CONDITION MAY BE THE CAUSE.

SUBARU OF AMERICA, INC. (SOA) QUALITY ASSURANCE HAS IDENTIFIED AN INCREASE IN THE NUMBER OF CRACKED WINDSHIELDS ON SOME 2015 AND 2016MY LEGACY AND OUTBACK MODELS. FURTHER INVESTIGATION HAS DETERMINED THE ROOT CAUSE FOR MANY OF THESE FAILURES TO BE THE CERAMIC MATERIALS USED FOR THE BLACK-COLORED PRINTED PERIMETER COMBINED WITH THE SILVER-COLORED MATERIAL USED FOR THE WIPER DEICER PORTION OF THE WINDSHIELD GLASS. IN RESPONSE TO THIS INCREASE, SOA IS EXTENDING THE ORIGINAL WARRANTY ON APPLICABLE FACTORY-INSTALLED WINDSHIELDS TO 5 YEARS / UNLIMITED MILES. THIS WARRANTY EXTENSION WILL COVER WINDSHIELD REPLACEMENT A MAXIMUM OF ONE TIME WHERE APPLICABLE ON A VEHICLE WITH A VIN PRIOR TO THOSE LISTED IN THE PRODUCTION CHANGE INFORMATION ON PAGE 2 AND MEETING THE GUIDELINES OUTLINED IN THIS BULLETIN. NOTE: ALWAYS PERFORM A VEHICLE COVERAGE INQUIRY ON SUBARUNET TO DETERMINE ELIGIBILITY FOR THIS WARRANTY EXTENSION BEFORE PROCEEDING. SEE SAMPLE INQUIRY RESULT BELOW. THE VIN SHOULD ALSO BE CHECKED FOR ANY OPEN CAMPAIGNS OR RECALLS AT THIS TIME.
