This Preliminary Information communication advises the technician what to inspect if codes P0016 and/or P0017 are setting on a properly timed engine or a condition of the vehicle cranks but will not start. Technician should inspect the respective intake or exhaust camshaft reluctor to see if it has spun on the camshaft. The reluctor cannot be repositioned so the camshaft must be replaced. The new camshafts come with the reluctor already pressed on in the correct position.

Odometer setup at the electronic service center (ESC) when using an exchange IPC/DIC. 3. Tech 2® The Tech 2 is used to set up a replacement BCM, which includes loading the odometer value that is displayed and stored in the IPC. This Preliminary Information communication provides information to the technician on the steps to diagnose and repair vehicles that have a resonance type vibration occurs between 40 to 60 MPH. In most cases the engine must be under a slight load such as Air Conditioning compressor engagement, light throttle, and in 6th gear Torque Converter Clutch applied. Technician will relax the engine and transmission mounts, then the exhaust system by loosening the front pipe studs. Also work down the system disconnecting one exhaust hanger at a time. Then take the vehicle on a test drive to verify there was improvement. If additional steps are required place two sets of exhaust dampeners one set before and one set after the front catalytic converter. It may be required to move the pair of dampeners along the exhaust system to get the best results.

This Preliminary Information communication provides information to the technician about vibration complaints that are one of the most challenging complaints to accurately diagnose and repair. Technician will need to use Pico Oscilloscope Diagnostic Kit to effectively diagnosis vehicles. Technician should drive the vehicle will using the Pico Oscilloscope to record data. After the data is recorded it should be reviewed to determine the root cause of the concern. If a repair attempt made the concern better but not eliminated or had no affect at all, and are requesting assistance from General Motors Technical Assistance Center record another Pico file and save it to the computer. After the new Pico Oscilloscope data has been saved email the data to General Motors Technical Assistance Center in the subject line include ?Vibration? ?Business Associate Code? and the last 8 of the Vehicle Identification Number.

Technician will need to inspect the lift gate wedges by opening the lift gate, insert paper between the body side & lift-gate side wedges, and then close the lift gate. If the paper cannot be removed, grease lift-gate side wedges. If the paper can be removed, reset the wedges by loosen lift-gate side wedge center screw to allow center portion to "ratchet" along internal detents freely, pull center adjustment portion of lift-gate side wedges to full downward position, close lift-gate to full latch engagement then use power to close lift-gate system (if available), close manually on non-power lift gates and do not slam, open lift gate, and pull the center adjustment portion down one additional detent & torque screw 5.0 newton meters if wedge adjustment does not have enough travel for the one additional detent add washer under the two lift-gate side wedge attachments to shim as required. Now to inspect the lift gate wedges by opening the lift gate, insert paper between the body side & lift-gate side wedges, and then close the lift gate. If the paper cannot be removed, grease lift-gate side wedges. If the concern is still present adjust lift-gate latch striker.

This Preliminary Information communication provides information to the technician about vehicles that have a knock noise, seized engine, lower end squeak or squeal from the engine. Technician will inspect the oil control solenoids for metal debris. Also inspect for damage to the cam caps Journals and camshaft journals on the heads. The check the timing chain idler sprockets for stiffness when turning. If any of these instances would be a cause to replace the engine instead of repair.

This Preliminary Information communication advises the technician of a customer concern where the heated seat indicator light is not functioning or the heated seats are not up to operating temperature during a remote vehicle start event. This is normal operation of the heated seat during a remote vehicle start event. The electronic climate control module is not in a complete wake up state during a remote vehicle start mode and will not enable the light emitting diode. After a cold soak below 32 degrees Fahrenheit the seat will not get hot in the 10 minutes or less of the remote vehicle start mode. This is due to the fact that the heat element is not in direct contract with the seat surface while the seat is unoccupied and the foam below the heater is full cold insulating air which takes time to heat up. Technician is to communicate to the customer this condition is a normal operating characteristic of their vehicle. It will not impact the designed performance or reliability of the vehicle. Please share this information with the customer, including a copy of this message.

Diagnostic trouble codes U0078, U0140, U0151, U0155, U0164, U0198, or U0230 can be present. Inspect the body harness connector X901 for water intrusion or corrosion. Repair the connector and terminals as required.
