17098 - Service Update. Certain vehicles may have a condition where a false failure action is being taken when it is not required. This condition can result in the transmission holding the last known safe gear for 6 seconds. A malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) is set when this default happens more than 2 times, and reduced propulsion can happen for all 8-speed transmission applications. Dealers will reprogram the transmission control module (TCM).

This Preliminary Information communication provides information to the technician on how to diagnose and repair vehicle that may have a "Check Trailer Wiring" or "Service Trailer Brake System” message on the Driver Information Center when a trailer is connected to the vehicle. Diagnostic Trouble Code C1114 set in the Chassis Control Module. Chassis Control Module has to determine the type of trailer brake system that is being used. The Chassis Control Module can be sensitive to a variety of trailer wiring issues. The technician will need to make a trailer tester using Electric Trailer Brake Magnets and 7-way trailer connector to determine if it is a vehicle or trailer issue. If the concern is not duplicated with the tester installed, the vehicle is operating correctly and the focus should be on the trailer wiring or 7 way connector.

17105 - Customer Satisfaction Program. Certain vehicles, equipped with a DuraMax Diesel Engine (L5P) and Dual Generators (KHB), may have been built with an accessory drive belt idler pulley intended for other applications. The pulley?s centerline and capacity differs from the design intent pulley. This difference in alignment and durability may cause the accessory drive belt at some point to come off the accessory drive system. Without an accessory drive belt, the vehicle will lose engine cooling, battery charging, power steering, power brakes, and air conditioning operation. All other systems will function normally. Delaers will replace the idler pulley the belt or both.

17048 Customer Satisfaction. Certain vehicles may have a condition in which the transfer case actuator motor brake sticks in the open position inside the transfer case actuator assembly. If 1) the actuator motor brake sticks open, 2) the vehicle is on asurface with an angle greater than zero but less than two degrees, 3) the vehicle is parked in 4LO, 4) the system is warm, and 5) the vehicle ignition is turned ?Off,? there is potential for vehicle rollback due to the range fork slipping into neutral. The brake sticking condition will set diagnostic trouble code C0326 58 and a ?Service AWD? warning will appear on the driver information center. Dealers are to replace the transfer case actuator assembly.

General Motors has discovered an inadvertent error in the Parts Content Information portion of the window label on certain vehicles, which displays US/Canadian Parts Content for the vehicle, and Country of Origin (COO) information for the engine and transmission on these vehicles. As a result, the label displayed incorrect parts content percentages and COO information for the engines and transmissions on these vehicles. GM will contact involved owners of the affected to notify them of the situation. This label error has no effect on the safety or operation of the vehicles. Dealers are to affix a corrected new replacement label to the vehicle.

If vehicle has regular production option NQF the technician finds that with vehicle in four wheel drive with solid indicator light but the front wheels do not assist in moving vehicle he is to verify when shifting the transfer case to four wheel drive the light is solid If that switch illuminated solid then all operations to achieve four wheel drive were completed successfully. Technician is to inspect pictured item and ensure that the body ring that the synchronizer engages has not separated from theTransfer Case Front Output Shaft Drive Sprocket. If so then replace the transfer case front output drive shaft sprocket as needed. If vehicle has regular production option NQG and the customer indicates that the transfer case was in four wheel drive with that indicator light on solid in the instrument panel cluster but the front wheels were not assisting in vehicle movement technician is to verify the following, shift the transfer case to four wheel drive and ensure that the four wheel drive in the instrument panel cluster is on solid. Technician is to inspect pictured item and ensure that the body ring that the synchronizer engages has not separated from theTransfer Case Front Output Shaft Drive Sprocket.If so then replace the transfer case front output drive shaft sprocket as needed.

Technician will need to determine what type of call the customer is having that is unwanted. The vehicle may receive an incoming call just like any other phone. Typically the customer will hear the phone ringing in the vehicle. This scenario also includes incoming Bluetooth calls. One type of unwanted call can be made if the key pad is faulty the OnStar system will try to make a blue button call for shorted voltage in the circuits. The OnStar module could have an internal fault and produce a ″Phone Unavailable″ audio message also it may have a Diagnostic Trouble Code U1500 or B1000. Refer to diagnostics for the Diagnostic Trouble Code making sure to follow any applicable Bulletins or Preliminary Information sheets. A “Ready” or “OnStar ready” audio message heard while driving. In some cases it has been found that the customer is inadvertently pressing the ″push to talk″ button on the steering wheel controls. On rare occasions, other issues in the steering column or Steering Wheel Control system may induce this concern.

Technician will need to slightly bend the end of the J-38125-12A release tool. There is a purple Terminal Position Assurance that will align itself in the release position when the release tool is inserted into the release hole. There is a metal locking tab on the terminal that will need to be pushed in before the terminal will pull out of the connector.
