Some 2013-2016 Super Duty vehicles equipped with a 6.7L diesel engine and 2015-2019 Transit vehicles equipped with a 3.2L diesel engine may not pass a state smog test due to the exhaust gas system (EGS) monitor that will not run after completing the exhaust gas sensor drive cycle located within Section 2 of the Powertrain Control/Emissions Diagnostics (PC/ED) Manual > Drive Cycles. This may be due to the vehicles diesel oxidation catalyst (DOC) age counter being under the 120-minute age requirement. There is an all-new "PCM Catalytic Converter Age Evaluation" application within the latest version of the Ford Diagnosis and Repair System (FDRS). Use this new FDRS application to determine the age (in minutes) of the DOC. If the age is less than 120 minutes, perform manual regenerations to increase the catalyst age counter to satisfy the monitor age requirement. If further assistance is needed, contact the technical assistance center (TAC). Note: this article only applies to the EGS monitor. Problems with other vehicle monitors not running successfully must be addressed using normal diagnostics located i

Some 2015-2024 Transit vehicles equipped with rear wheel drive (RWD), single rear wheel (only), and U-joints at the transmission flange and rear driveshaft may experience a boom/hum/moan noise from the rear while driving. This noise is most noticeable at highway speeds: 112-121 km/h (70-75 mph) for 4.10 axle ratio 121-128 km/h (75-80 mph) for 3.73 axle ratio 136-145 km/h (85-90 mph) for 3.31 axle ratio The noise may also be present to a lesser degree at roughly half of the noted speeds. This may be due to a 2nd order driveline frequency transmitted through the rear driveshaft, rear axle and into the body through the leaf springs.

For 2015-2024 Ford and Lincoln vehicles equipped with turbocharged engines and customer concern of an engine oil leak, refer to Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 303-00 for oil leak inspection and testing methods. Ford has evaluated turbochargers replaced for oil leak symptoms and although oil may collect on the external surface of a turbocharger, it is extremely rare for a turbocharger assembly to be the root cause of the oil leak. Careful inspection of the turbocharger oil feed and drain tubes should be performed along with the recommended WSM procedures as needed. Warranty claims for turbocharger replacement going forward will be assessed.

During service and repair requiring removal and replacement of a crankshaft bolt and/or crankshaft damper, achieving proper torque of the crankshaft pulley bolt is critical. Incorrect torque may allow the bolt to loosen resulting in the timing gear breaking and engine damage. Replacement of the bolt is critical to the repair and accurately following the installation procedure in the Workshop Manual (WSM) Section, 303-01 is extremely important. The bolt torque procedure can be found in the crankshaft front seal removal and installation procedure or in the engine assembly procedure.

Per Powertrain Control/Emissions Diagnosis (PC/ED) Pinpoint Test (PPT) RJ, a DEF concentration reading below 28% will set P206C and cause vehicle derate. Some 2013-2019 vehicles equipped with a EVDC air conditioning (A/C) compressor may exhibit poor A/C performance/improper climate function and/or a diagnostic trouble code (DTC) P06A0 in the powertrain control module (PCM). To support the proper diagnosis of this compressor, the EVDC control valve tester has been developed and is available from Rotunda (339-EVDC100). A tester has been provided to each U.S. dealership free of charge with shipments completed 19-Apr-2019 (reference EFC07013 on FMCDealer.com). This tester will help reduce the potential for misdiagnosis and unnecessary compressor replacement. Make sure that this tester is used for warranty repairs and document the test results in the Technician Comments field. Refer to the Rotunda catalog for a video and user manual which provide detailed operating instructions.

Some 2015-2019 Transit High-Roof Bus/Passenger Wagon vehicles may experience a loose or unseated headliner at the C and/or C 1/2 pillar(s) causing visible gaps. This may be due to a lack of retention capability of the headliner locator tabs to the pillar block pins. To correct the condition, install repair coupons to the headliner and replace the headliner A/C vent foam gaskets.

When removing and installing a 2015-2019 Transit front subframe, the cage nuts located in the body of the vehicle may become damaged. If the nut spins in its cage when removing or installing the attachment bolts, the nut can be held with a socket through an access hole in the vehicles frame member. It may be necessary to bend the tabs of the cage up and away from the nut to allow socket placement. The cage nut has been released as a service part (CK4Z-61105A38-A) and can be replaced if damaged. The replacement nut can be removed from its cage and installed in the vehicle's original cage. It is not required to replace the cage as it is welded to the interior of the vehicles frame member.

Some 2015-2019 Transit High Roof Bus/Passenger Wagon vehicles may have a headliner that does not stay seated at the C and/or C and half pillar hard trim. A permanent repair solution for the existing headliners has been developed and is expected to be available via TSB by late 2nd quarter 2019. Continue to monitor OASIS for updates. In preparation for the TSB repair, encourage your parts department to locally source 3M 04747 Super Repair Adhesive and mixing nozzles 3M 38191 (12 pack) or 38193 (50 pack) if you anticipate performing the upcoming repair. Do not fabricate alternative headliner attachment methods as an interim repair. Headliner retention in these areas is intentionally delicate to allow for proper side curtain airbag deployment.

Some 2015-2019 Transit vehicles may exhibit front seat safety belts that do not extend or retract properly or may exhibit an abnormal noise. Verify if the vehicle has been modified, in particular if a bulkhead partition between the front seats and cargo area has been added to the vehicle. Fasteners or holes in the lower b-pillar are indicators that the seat belt retractor mechanism could have been compromised. If diagnostics lead to retractor replacement, inspect for drill or screw holes in the retractor housing. Damage to the seat belt retractor caused by a vehicle modifier is not warrantable.

Review of repair data supports that P206C is often the result of incorrect diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) concentration. Per Powertrain Control/Emissions Diagnosis (PC/ED) Pinpoint Test (PPT) RJ, a DEF concentration reading below 28% will set P206C and cause vehicle derate. If low concentration is suspected, drain fluid and replace with known good DEF before replacing any parts. Low concentration of DEF is not a warrantable condition.

Ford does not recommend the cleaning of diesel intakes or EGR coolers using any aftermarket tool that injects a cleaning foam or liquid substance into the EGR cooler or intake. Using these types of fluids can result in sodium poisoning of the NOx and particulate matter (PM) sensors resulting in degraded operation and permanent damage to the aftertreatment system.
