This Preliminary Information communication provides information to the technician about vehicles that will not charge and Service Engine Soon Malfunction Indicator Lamp on. Technician may find Diagnostic Trouble Codes P0AA6 and/ or a P1F0E set on 2011-2013 Volt or a P0DAA on 2014 Volt or Cadillac ELR in the Hybrid Powertrain Control Module 2. Technician will need to inspect the coolant level in the Hybrid/EV Battery Pack. If the coolant is found low follow published Service Information diagnostics. Technician will need to inspect the Hybrid/EV Battery Pack drain plug, located on the battery tray, regardless of fluid level at the Hybrid/EV Battery Pack coolant reservoir. If any moisture is found during the drain plug inspection, contact the General Motors Technical Assistance Center for further assistance. If the coolant level in cooling system is at the proper level and there is no moisture in the battery during the drain plug inspection, and the coolant freeze protection is between -10 and -40 degrees Fahrenheit, then update the Hybrid Powertrain Control Module2 and Battery Energy Control Module with the latest Calibrations in TIS-2-Web. Technician will need to gather all measurements recorded while evaluating Diagnostic Trouble Code P0AA6 and contact the GM Technical Assistance Center for further assistance.

This Preliminary Information communication provides information to the technician the steps to diagnose and repair vehicles that have Check Engine Light illuminated with an "Engine Unavailable" and "Reduced Propulsion" messages on the Driver Information Center. Technician may find Diagnostic Trouble Codes a P0AB9 and P0AC4. Technician should not clear any Diagnostic Trouble Codes and ensure Global Diagnostic System 2 is up to date. Technician will need to use Global Diagnostic System 2 and check all modules for Diagnostic Trouble Codes. Now use Global Diagnostic System 2 to create freeze frame data from Hybrid Powertrain Control Module and the Engine Control Module and save a report. Technician will need to verify that the vehicle had not been run very low or out of fuel. Also verify the customer did not press the Power Button causing the vehicle to turn off while driving. Verify that the Internal Combustion Engine runs properly and no other engine related or communication related Diagnostic Trouble Codes are present. Technician should inquire if the remote star was used on the last two drive cycles before the Diagnostic Trouble Code set. Technician should update the Engine Control Module if so. Technician should inspect the ground locations G106 (engine block) and G113 (drive unit case) have been cleaned and are secure making sure the ground eyelets do not spin. Technician should also check for past service history for prior mechanical engine or wiring harness repairs. Inspect the cam timing connector and repair any damage.

14122 - SERVICE UPDATE. THIS BULLETIN PROVIDES A SERVICE PROCEDURE TO ADD 60 ML (2.0 OZ) OF POLYOLESTER (POE) REFRIGERANT OIL TO THE A/C COMPRESSOR ON CERTAIN VEHICLES. THESE VEHICLES WERE SHIPPED WITH LESS POE REFRIGERANT OIL IN THE A/C COMPRESSOR THAN SPECIFIED FOR LONG-TERM DURABILITY. THERE IS NO SHORT-TERM EFFECT; HOWEVER IF OPERATED LONG-TERM WITH LESS THAN THE SPECIFIED POE OIL LEVEL, THE COMPRESSOR MAY EXPERIENCE ACCELERATED WEAR AND PREMATURE FAILURE.

This Preliminary Information communication provides information to the technician about vehicles that may have a no crank with a "Waiting to Initialize" message displayed on the Driver Information Center. Technician may also find a Diagnostic Trouble Code P0AFA in the Hybrid Powertrain Control Module 2. Technician will need to insure that the 12 volt battery is fully charged. Then install the Multiple Diagnostic Interface and open Global Diagnostic System 2 open the Hybrid Powertrain Control Module then use the Control Function feature to select ?Check High Voltage System related Diagnostic Trouble Code?s?. Then click on ?Reset? to clear the Diagnostic Trouble Codes. Wait 45 seconds then exit the screen. Next select Check Secured High Voltage DTCs? select the ?Clear DTCs? then click on ?Reset? to clear the Diagnostic Trouble Codes. Now remove the Multiple Diagnostic Interface from the vehicle then shut the vehicle down and let it sleep for three minutes. At this time disconnect the 12 volt battery and touch the battery cables together and then re-install after 15 seconds. Start the vehicle after a 3 minute waiting period. If the vehicle still has a no crank concern follow published Service Information diagnosis.
