This Preliminary Information communication advises the technician what affects electric range and provides driving tips for better energy efficiency. Vehicles may have an electric range is less than customer expectations or what is being displayed on the in-vehicle display for EV range. The distance you can go in an electric vehicle varies with the outside temperature. All electric vehicles are less efficient in cold or hot conditions. This is a function of battery storage capability and increased use of cabin heat and/or air conditioning in these conditions. The vehicle must also maintain a consistent battery temperature in order to maintain desired long term performance. Tire pressure can have an impact on the electric range also. Additionally tire pressures can change with temperature changes. In order to maximize your electric range, ensure that your tires are properly inflated. For proper tire pressure, review the Owner?s manual and the vehicle tire and loading information label. Using the heat and air conditioning systems decreases the energy available for electric driving. Optimal energy efficiency is achieved with the heat, air conditioning, and fan turned off. Driving uphill requires more energy and can reduce electric range.

Due to the existing cellular provider not having roaming agreements in areas outside of Canada to support transmitting of the packet data required for Turn-By-Turn feature to operate. The customer has 3 options while traveling through the United Sates. First if the vehicle is equipped with a navigation radio they can request a "Destination Download" to the vehicle. Second if the customer uses the OnStar RemoteLink app they can send the directions to the vehicle. The third option would be to have the vehicle loaded with a "500 phone number" The customer will no longer be able to use their Hands Free Calling minutes when the new 500 phone number is loaded. This Preliminary Information communication provides information to the technician about vehicles that may have a engine noise is sometimes louder than expected. Also will explain the known normal and abnormal reasons why the engine may be louder. When the vehicle speed is between 25-50 miles per hour the road noise does not mask the engine noise this is considered normal. When the vehicle is first started for the day the system will perform a catalyst preconditioning for about a minute. At this time the engine will seem louder than normal, this is normal. At times the engine often runs at wide open throttle, but at a reduced speed. This sound is uncharacteristic of a four-cylinder engine in a traditional sedan, but is a characteristic of an extended range electric vehicle such as the Chevrolet Volt. Technician will be able to inspect for abnormal induction ground-out conditions. These locations should be checked lower rubber isolator on air box not installed correctly or missing, upper induction resonator cover not installed properly, refrigerant line not bolted to engine support bracket, and throttle body contacting coolant pipes behind it. Abnormal exhaust ground-out conditions should also be inspected. These locations are at the exhaust clamp rearward of the second catalytic converter is contacting the battery heat shield, exhaust resonator underbody is contacting the heat shield. Repair any abnormal issue found.
