This Preliminary Information communication provides information to the technician on the steps need to diagnose and repair vehicles that may have stalling shudder and/or hard shifting into 1st gear or reverse vibration on launch (with excessive crankshaft end play). Technician will test to determine if the crank shaft end play is within specification 0.0015–0.0086 inch. If end play is found to be out of specification, remove engine and inspect for possible crankshaft thrust bearing and/or crankshaft for wear. Inspect thrust bearing for wear on one side and crankshaft on that “mating” surface. If the thrust bearing has three vertical channels worn off replace connecting rod bearings, main bearings, thrust bearing and crankshaft. If working on a Corvette the oil tank with lines and oil cooler are both required to be replaced if equipped.

Pair the iPhone to the system then enter the Bluetooth settings menu, select the “i” icon next to the vehicle name in the device and enable show notifications. The text messaging feature will be available on the next ignition cycle. However with iPhones text messages cannot be responded to when using the infotainment system, they can only be received. For android devices pair the phone to the system during the pairing process the phone will ask you to allow the vehicle to access the device contacts. A second question will pop up on the device asking to allow the vehicle to access the message access profile. Both have to be allowed for the text messaging feature to work.

Typically the customer will hear the phone ringing in the vehicle. This scenario also includes incoming Bluetooth calls. One type of unwanted call can be made if the key pad is faulty the OnStar system will try to make a blue button call for shorted voltage in the circuits. The OnStar module could have an internal fault and produce a ″Phone Unavailable″ audio message also it may have a Diagnostic Trouble Code U1500 or B1000. Refer to diagnostics for the Diagnostic Trouble Code making sure to follow any applicable Bulletins or Preliminary Information sheets. A “Ready” or “OnStar ready” audio message heard while driving.
