Technician should turn off the ignition and cancel retained accessory power. After the vehicle has powered down, remove power to the OnStar module for five minutes. After the power has been removed for five minutes, if the OnStar system is working release the vehicle. If the OnStar system is still inoperative continue with published Service Information diagnostics.

If air enters the system it will travel to this high point if the system is opened for a repair. This Preliminary Information communication provides information to the technician on the steps to diagnose and repair vehicles that have check engine light and a misfire. Technician will find a P0300 set. If the misfiring cylinder is creating NO or very low power, technician will need to follow these diagnostics steps. 1) Swap the ignition coil and spark plug with another cylinder. 2) Inspect the plug when out for wet or dry condition. 3) Perform an injector test with a scan tool. 4) If the plug is wet then check for a leaking or stuck open injector. 5) If the plug is dry then enrich the intake air with propane. If the severity of the misfire is less with enrichment, suspect a weak or inoperative injector driver in the Engine Control Module and replace as needed. 6) Perform a cylinder leakage test to determine if there is a valve sealing concern. If there is a valve sealing concern see the latest version of PIP5029 for recommendations.

The brake lines between the master cylinder and the antilock brake system module are routed higher than the master cylinder. If air enters the system it will travel to this high point if the system is opened for a repair. The technician will need to perform an automated bleed procedure using the scan tool to ensure all the air is purged out of the hydraulic system.

This Preliminary Information communication provides information to the technician about vehicles that during battery parasitic drain test, there may be some confusion as to what the normal power consumption reading should be from the OnStar system. Technician should understand the power cycles of the various OnStar systems. All Generation 6, 7, 8, and 9 systems are powered up continuously for 48 hours from ignition off. After 120 hours from ignition off, these systems then completely power off. The Onstar modules draw: * IGN ON - 240 to 400 Milliamp. * IGN OFF - 3 to 20 Milliamp for 48 hours or 120 hours on Gen 9 and vehicle communication platforms. * IGN OFF - 0.2 to 0.8 Milliamp after 48 hours or 120 hours on Gen 9 and vehicle communication platforms.
