Technician will need to inspect the terminals at the Engine Control Module for fit and tension as well as the crimp to wire connection. Terminals to inspect in the ECM are connector x2 terminals 3, 18, and 19 for the fuel rail pressure sensor. Also connector x3 terminals 16 and 32 for the high pressure fuel pump.

Technician will inspect the oil control solenoids for metal debris. Also inspect for damage to the cam caps Journals and camshaft journals on the heads. The check the timing chain idler sprockets for stiffness when turning. If any of these instances would be a cause to replace the engine instead of repair.

This Preliminary Information communication provides information to the technician of a complaint of a sag or hesitation when accelerating. The concern is present when coasting at low speeds of less than 15 miles per hour and then aggressively applying the throttle, or after making a hard stop followed by an aggressive throttle. This is considered normal operation of the vehicle the throttle is delayed and opened slowly up to .7 seconds to help minimize driveline lash and clunking or will have approximately .5 seconds of zero torque to allow the transmission to shift to first gear.

13120C - SERVICE UPDATE (REVISED EXPIRATION DATE). THIS BULLETIN PROVIDES A SERVICE PROCEDURE TO REPROGRAM THE TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE (TCM) ON CERTAIN VEHICLES, EQUIPPED WITH 6-SPEED AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION. THE TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH SOLENOID IN THE TECHM CAN STICK DUE TO DEBRIS IN THE TRANSMISSION. WHEN THE VEHICLE IS AT THE END OF A COAST-DOWN, AS THE VEHICLE IS COMING TO A STOP, A STUCK SOLENOID WILL FAIL TO RELEASE THE TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH. THIS KEEPS THE ENGINE DIRECTLY CONNECTED TO THE DRIVEN WHEELS. AS THE VEHICLE STOPS, THE ENGINE SPEED WILL BE PULLED DOWN BELOW NORMAL IDLE SPEED AND THE ENGINE MAY STALL. THE VEHICLE CAN BE IMMEDIATELY RESTARTED AND DRIVEN. THE REPROGRAMMING WILL INSTALL A REVISED CALIBRATION TO CORRECT THIS CONDITION.

This Preliminary Information communication provides information to the technician on the steps to diagnose and repair vehicles that have check engine light and a misfire. Technician will find a P0300 set. If the misfiring cylinder is creating NO or very low power, technician will need to follow these diagnostics steps. 1) Swap the ignition coil and spark plug with another cylinder. 2) Inspect the plug when out for wet or dry condition. 3) Perform an injector test with a scan tool. 4) If the plug is wet then check for a leaking or stuck open injector. 5) If the plug is dry then enrich the intake air with propane. If the severity of the misfire is less with enrichment, suspect a weak or inoperative injector driver in the Engine Control Module and replace as needed. 6) Perform a cylinder leakage test to determine if there is a valve sealing concern. If there is a valve sealing concern see the latest version of PIP5029 for recommendations.

This Preliminary Information communication provides information to the technician about a rattle coming from the rear of the vehicle when driving over medium sized bumps, it may sound like a loose spare tire or suspension component. The noise is most likely the left and right retaining clips holding the midsections of the parking brake cables to the car. The rattle can be repaired by preloading the cables using the published parking brake adjustment procedure found in service information.
