This Preliminary Information communication provides information to the technician some vehicles may have a drive motor generator, battery control module and cooling fan may become inoperative due to low system voltage. There may have been a charging system message, battery warning lamp or service hybrid system message displayed and may have Diagnostic Trouble Code P0C32 and or P0A7E. If the voltage level drops to a predetermined level approximately 9 direct current volts use Global Diagnostic System 2 to command the battery pack cooling fan motor on to make sure it operates. If the fan does not operate it will need to be replaced. Technician may need to run the vehicle through several drive cycles to ensure that there is not another root cause for the low voltage condition. Technician will need to reprogram the generator control module.

If the vehicle has more than one device listed in the Bluetooth device list, and the last device used was an Apple product, the Apple products will not autoconnect. The system will connect to one of the other devices instead. This concern is usually noticed after Retained Accessory Power has cancelled and the vehicle has gone to sleep. Advise the customer that they will need to update their Apple device to the latest operating system.

Some customers may complain of an engine oil leak that appeared as they were driving the vehicle in extremely cold ambient temperatures (Generally 0 F /-17 C or Colder). They may also comment that they heard a single "pop" noise right before the oil leak started. Upon inspection, the technician will find that the oil leak is coming from the rear main oil seal of the engine as shown below. This may be the result of a frozen PCV system and excessive crankcase pressure. If a leaking rear main oil seal is found in warmer climates, this PI does not apply.

This Preliminary Information communication provides information to the technician on the steps to diagnose and repair vehicles that may have a Service Charging System, Battery Saver message Or Malfunction Indicator Lamp on, and/or charging system inoperative. Technician will use Global Diagnostic System 2 and clear the Diagnostic Trouble Codes in the Hybrid Powertrain Control Module and the Battery Energy Control Module. Then turn the ignition off for a minimum of 2 minutes to allow the high speed local area network and powertrain expansion bus to power down. Start the car and monitor the charging system voltage. If the charging system is still inoperative there may be a logic lock condition. Disconnect the 12V battery and perform a Global Capacitive Discharge and repeat steps again.

This Preliminary Information communication provides information to the technician about vehicles that have a Service Engine Soon Malfunction Indicator Lamp. Technician may find Diagnostic Trouble Code P0442. Technician will need to review Techlink article from May 2013 titled "Using the Evaporative Emissions System Tester" Technician will need to follow these steps to help diagnose the issue. First after the P0442 has been verified do not disturb any of the fuel system components. The technician now can use the scan tool to close the Evaporative Emissions System. If possible change the tank pressure sensor units from inch_H2O to milimeter_Hg for better resolution. Now the vehicle can be stared to monitor the tank pressure sensor output value for approximately two minutes. If the tank pressure sensor value does change, pressurize the fuel tank side of the purge solenoid with the GE 41413-A / J 41413-A and the necessary adaptors. Now add smoke and allow pressure to stabilize for 2 minutes. If smoke is allowed to pass through the purge solenoid, replace the purge solenoid. If the tank pressure sensor value does not change, then install CH-48096 adaptor between the purge line from the canister and the purge solenoid. With the Evaporative Emissions System closed, pressurize the system through the CH-48096 adaptor and allow the system to completely stabilize, by observing the Press / Vac Gauge for a minimum of 5 minutes. Now add smoke to the system with GE 41413-A / J 41413-A after system stabilization. Now inspect the purge solenoid, engine side, fuel cap, canister vent solenoid filter and any line quick connects. When the leak is unable to be located, test under a vacuum condition. his type of leak may be detected by using the scan tool Purge/Seal function to create a vacuum in the Evaporative Emissions System and then observe the FTP sensor parameter for vacuum decay.

Technician should inspect the respective intake or exhaust camshaft reluctor to see if it has spun on the camshaft. The reluctor cannot be repositioned so the camshaft must be replaced. The new camshafts come with the reluctor already pressed on in the correct position.

Technician will need to use Pico Oscilloscope Diagnostic Kit to effectively diagnosis vehicles. Technician should drive the vehicle will using the Pico Oscilloscope to record data. After the data is recorded it should be reviewed to determine the root cause of the concern. If a repair attempt made the concern better but not eliminated or had no affect at all, and are requesting assistance from General Motors Technical Assistance Center record another Pico file and save it to the computer. On some 2008 model year (MY) Saturn Outlook; 2008-2009 MY Buick Allure, Chevrolet Equinox, Chevrolet Uplander, Pontiac G8, Pontiac Montana SV6, Pontiac Torrent, and Saturn VUE; 2008-2010 MY Hummer H3 and Pontiac G6; 2008-2011 MY Cadillac CTS, Cadillac SRX, and Chevrolet Impala; 2008, 2011-2012 MY Chevrolet Captiva; 2008-2012 MY Buick Enclave, Buick Lacrosse, Chevrolet Colorado, Chevrolet Malibu, and GMC Canyon; 2009 MY Hummer H3T; 2009-2011 MY Buick Lucerne; 2009-2012 MY Chevrolet Traverse and GMC Acadia; and 2010-2012 MY Buick Regal vehicles, the throttle-position sensor may cause the engine to run rough, cause the malfunction-indicator lamp and/or an engine reduced power message to illuminate, and reduce the engine's power. Dealers are to replace the throttle body assembly and gasket for Bosch equipped vehicles, or to install the throttle position sensor kit for Hitachi equipped vehicles. The Hitachi throttle body assembly only needs to be replaced if the sensor kit does not correct the condition. The repairs will be made at no charge to the customer. For vehicles covered by Vehicle Service Contracts, all eligible claims with repair orders on or after September 24, 2015, are covered by this special coverage and must be submitted using the labor operation codes provided with this bulletin. Claims September 2015 Bulletin No.: 14582 with repair orders prior to September 24, 2015, must be submitted to the Service Contract provider.

This Preliminary Information communication provides information to the technician about iPhones will not always autoconnect through Bluetooth to the vehicle. If the vehicle has more than one device listed in the Bluetooth device list, and the last device used was an Apple product, the Apple products will not autoconnect. The system will connect to one of the other devices instead. This concern is usually noticed after Retained Accessory Power has cancelled and the vehicle has gone to sleep. Advise the customer that they will need to update their Apple device to the latest operating system.

This Preliminary Information communication provides information to the technician about some vehicles that may have a concern of Bluetooth music skipping. This condition is a normal operating characteristic of the vehicle. Streaming music through Bluetooth uses a lot of the radio's processing resources. If the radio is also dedicating a large amount of resources to other applications such as navigation, booting, or XM Weather the Bluetooth audio may hesitate/skip as the system is being heavily loaded.
