Technician should turn off the ignition and cancel retained accessory power. After the vehicle has powered down, remove power to the OnStar module for five minutes. After the power has been removed for five minutes, if the OnStar system is working release the vehicle. If the OnStar system is still inoperative continue with published Service Information diagnostics. To ensure the highest quality and best ownership experience for our customers, these transmissions need to be replaced prior to vehicle delivery.This bulletin provides a service procedure to replace the transmission assembly on certain vehicles equipped with 6T40 automatic transmission (MHH). The transmissions in these vehicles may have been assembled with an improperly manufactured snap ring. A burr on the snap ring can cause it to stick to the aluminum housing causing the snap ring to compress and come out of the retaining groove. If this occurs, the Check Engine Light illuminates and the transmission enters default mode (Second Gear - 65 mph or 104 km/h maximum and Reverse Gear operation only). Customer complaints may include no shift, erratic shifts, growls and slipping, hesitation and jerks.

13257 - Service Update. Reprogram the body control module (BCM). When the key is turned to start the engine, a series of communication events occur. If there is an interruption in this communication, it could result in a no crank/start condition. The engine can be started with the remote start feature; however, the engine will shut down within 5 seconds if the communication error occurs. After waiting approximately 10 minutes, the engine can be started. This condition may or may not occur on subsequent starts, depending on whether or not there is a communication error.

If the technician isolates the condition to be coming from the Rear Drive Module, then check the fluid level in the Rear Drive Module per Service Information. If fluid levels are incorrect then diagnose and repair as needed, review latest version of PI0703 if the differential clutch is overfull. If no fluid concerns are found change the differential clutch oil filter and oil. Technician should insure all oil and debris is removed from the differential.

This Preliminary Information communication provides information to the technician of a complaint of a sag or hesitation when accelerating. The concern is present when coasting at low speeds of less than 15 miles per hour and then aggressively applying the throttle, or after making a hard stop followed by an aggressive throttle. This is considered normal operation of the vehicle the throttle is delayed and opened slowly up to .7 seconds to help minimize driveline lash and clunking or will have approximately .5 seconds of zero torque to allow the transmission to shift to first gear.
