Service Action Campaign (Certain 2009-2012 Model Year Vehicles with TDI Clean Diesel Engine Install Misfueling Guard): As diesel engine passenger vehicles become more popular, auto manufacturers have seen an increase in the number of misfueling cases where diesel engine vehicles are mistakenly fueled with gasoline. The resulting fuel system contamination can lead to costly repairs that are not covered under warranty. The corrective action taken for this issue was installing a misfueling guard in the fuel filler neck of vehicles.

VOLKSWAGEN DEALERSHIP COMMUNICATION (Service Action 20T8 Install Misfueling Guard): Volkswagen has received feedback from some vehicle owners in localized areas who have concerns about their ability to refuel their vehicle after the 20T8 Service Action was performed. A few customers have advised that they are unable to fuel their vehicle at their preferred fueling stations or that it now takes a very long time to refuel. Volkswagen believes the root cause is attributed to damage and/or variances in diesel fuel nozzles found at fueling stations. At this time, Volkswagen has no evidence to conclude that there is any problem with the misfueling guard. Dealers should continue performing Service Action 20T8 on vehicles that show the code open in ElsaWeb. In discussing this action with customers, Volkswagen encourages to utilize the talking points in this document.

Technical Bulletin (Update Programming of ECM for Concerns of a Bump Sensation after Coming to a Stop): Current ECM programming may cause a bump after coming to a stop, which may be felt through the chassis of the vehicle. This concern is caused by the engine torque being slightly high when the transmission goes into Neutral Control. Neutral Control is designed to reduce load on the engine during idle, in order to decrease emissions. The production solution to this issue was improved software for smoother stopping.

Technical Bulletin (Cylinder Glow Plug issues): During the initial glow phase, after switching the ignition "On", the ECM performs a check of the glow plugs through the glow plug control module, to ensure the correct glow plugs are installed. If the engine is cranked during this check, lowering the system voltage, the ECM may receive an incorrect reading and set incorrect glow plug faults. A production solution is already being implemented for this issue. This document discusses the "Fault Codes" necessary to diagnosis, and potential remedy of the issue. Be aware that fuel lines are color coded on vehicles with return fuel pressure lines. The black line is for fuel pressure supply and the blue line is for fuel pressure return. To verify correct line installation, remove the metal cover exposing the fuel pump flange assembly (generally under the rear seat). Refer to the ELSA Repair Manual for specific location. Check for raised arrows on the flange housing. The black line (Fuel Pressure Supply) attaches to the connection with the arrow pointing away from it. The blue line (fuel return) attaches to the connection with arrow pointing to it.

When diagnosing a generator charging concern, it is recommended to verify operation of the one way clutch located in the generator pulley (if equipped) before replacing generator assembly. To check the one way clutch, remove the belt from the generator pulley and use a trim removal tool to hold fan blades inside generator, as shown below. When attempting to turn pulley by hand with fan blades held, pulley should spin freely in only one direction. If pulley spins freely in both directions, the one way clutch has failed and should be replaced before continuing diagnosis.
