This bulletin provides new part information and an identification procedure to address a small number of vehicles identified with a sticking secondary hood latch mechanism. The hood latch mechanism is exposed to foreign materials during normal use which can accumulate and cause the secondary portion to not operate properly. The spring-loaded secondary latch is manually released (after pulling the inside hood release lever to operate the primary latch mechanism) by the operator to open the hood. If faulty, the spring may not have enough force to return the lever back to its original position while the hood is open. Once the hood is closed, the secondary latch is forced into the closed position by design.

This bulletin announces availability of new rear gate (PRG) stays designed to address customer concerns of other than expected PRG operation. The enhancement involves a change to the viscosity of the lubricant used for maintaining smooth operation of the 2 pressurized rear gate stays. If the PRG is left open for an extended period of time (longer than pproximately 5 minutes), the stays may develop increased operating resistance. This increased resistance is transferred to the PRG mechanism during closing causing an increase to the motor?s electrical current draw. As a result, the ?anti-pinch? feature of the PRG activates, a beep sound occurs and the gate re-opens without input from the customer. These symptoms may continue to occur on subsequent attempts to close the PRG. The anti-pinch feature is designed to operate if the gate comes in contact with an obstruction while closing. When activated, the gate reverses direction and re-opens automatically.

This repair procedure was previously published in TSB number 07-89-15R. In the interest of customer satisfaction, Subaru of America, Inc. (Subaru) is now initiating a service program for certain 2015 model year Legacy and Outback vehicles as described in this service program bulletin. INTRODUCTION: During ocean transportation of the IG, ACC and EGI Main relays, moisture may be absorbed into them from exposure to very high ambient humidity conditions. During normal operation, this moisture is heated by the relay?s electric coils and evaporated while the engine is running however, it may not all be eliminated. If the vehicle is used in extreme cold temperatures (-20C / -4F), ice crystals may form on the relay?s contacts due to rapid heat radiation after the engine is turned off. As a result, these ice crystals can insulate and prevent electricity from flowing and lead to a contact failure. Should this occur, the engine may fail to start immediately. For example: if the engine is started under extreme cold temperatures, shut-off and left to ?soak? for approximately 20 minutes and then restarted, the described relay freezing / no-start condition may occur requiring several attempts to start the engine.

Revised TSB. This bulletin announces the availability of reprogramming files and a revised oil level switch to optimize the ECM logic for engine oil level detection in the event of false or premature low engine oil level warning lamp illumination. Should a customer present a concern with a low engine oil warning lamp illumination and the diagnosis indicate the oil level is full or nearly full (oil level between the full and add marks/holes on the dipstick) and the customer has not added any engine oil, the ECM must be updated with this new logic and the oil level switch specified below replaced. The new oil level switch part number supplied in this bulletin must be used. If the customer has added oil, determine how much was added. Based upon the information provided, estimate where the oil level was when the lamp illuminated in order to determine if additional action is required beyond what is described in this bulletin (e.g an oil consumption test). The ECM must still be updated with this new logic and the oil level switch replaced.

IF YOU RECEIVE A CUSTOMER CONCERN OF A NO CRANK / NO START CONDITION DURING VERY COLD TEMPERATURES, THE IG1, IG2, ACC1, ACC2 AND/OR THE EGI MAIN RELAYS MAY BE THE ROOT CAUSE AND REQUIRE REPLACEMENT. IT IS GENERALLY REPORTED THAT THE CAR STARTS NORMALLY AFTER AN OVERNIGHT SOAK. AFTER THE INITIAL START, THE CUSTOMER DRIVES A SHORT DISTANCE THEN SHUTS THE CAR OFF (EXAMPLE: AT A GAS PUMP OR COFFEE SHOP). AFTER THE TIME THAT IT TAKES TO PUMP THEIR GAS OR GET THEIR COFFEE, THEY RETURN TO THE CAR AND IT WILL NOT START. THE CUSTOMER MAY ALSO NOTICE THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER AND/OR INTERIOR LIGHTS ARE NOT ILLUMINATING ALONG WITH THE HVAC BEING INOPERATIVE. THE SOURCE OF THIS CONDITION HAS BEEN IDENTIFIED AS CONDENSATION FLASH-FREEZING INSIDE THE RELAYS. THIS BULLETIN PROVIDES A SERVICE PROCEDURE FOR REPLACEMENT OF ALL 5 RELAYS, 4 OF WHICH ARE LOCATED TOGETHER IN THE VEHICLES INTERIOR FUSE BOX (F/B) AND THE EGI MAIN RELAY WHICH IS LOCATED IN THE UNDER-HOOD MAIN FUSE BOX (M/B).

SUBARU OF AMERICA, INC. (SOA) QUALITY ASSURANCE HAS IDENTIFIED AN INCREASE IN THE NUMBER OF CRACKED WINDSHIELDS ON SOME 2015 AND 2016MY LEGACY AND OUTBACK MODELS. FURTHER INVESTIGATION HAS DETERMINED THE ROOT CAUSE FOR MANY OF THESE FAILURES TO BE THE CERAMIC MATERIALS USED FOR THE BLACK-COLORED PRINTED PERIMETER COMBINED WITH THE SILVER-COLORED MATERIAL USED FOR THE WIPER DEICER PORTION OF THE WINDSHIELD GLASS. IN RESPONSE TO THIS INCREASE, SOA IS EXTENDING THE ORIGINAL WARRANTY ON APPLICABLE FACTORY-INSTALLED WINDSHIELDS TO 5 YEARS / UNLIMITED MILES. THIS WARRANTY EXTENSION WILL COVER WINDSHIELD REPLACEMENT A MAXIMUM OF ONE TIME WHERE APPLICABLE ON A VEHICLE WITH A VIN PRIOR TO THOSE LISTED IN THE PRODUCTION CHANGE INFORMATION ON PAGE 2 AND MEETING THE GUIDELINES OUTLINED IN THIS BULLETIN.

SUBARU OF AMERICA, INC. WILL BE ISSUING A WARRANTY EXTENSION TO ADDRESS CRACKS OR BREAKAGE IN THE DEICER AREA OF THE WINDSHIELD ON 2015 AND EARLY PRODUCTION 2016 LEGACY AND OUTBACK MODELS EQUIPPED WITH THE ALL WEATHER PACKAGE THAT INCLUDED A WINDSHIELD WIPER DEICER. THIS EXTENSION ALSO COVERS CERTAIN EARLY REPLACEMENT WINDSHIELDS WHICH WERE SIMILARLY AFFECTED. DURING THE WINDSHIELD GLASS MANUFACTURING PROCESS, CERTAIN COMPOUNDS USED TO ADHERE THE DEICER TO THE LOWER PORTION OF THE WINDSHIELD POTENTIALLY CREATED A CONDITION WHERE THE GLASS COULD BECOME MORE SUSCEPTIBLE TO CRACKING FOLLOWING A MINOR WOUND TO THE GLASS DUE TO SOME OUTSIDE FORCE SUCH AS A STONE IMPACT. WHEN THIS OCCURS, THE DAMAGE TO THE GLASS GENERALLY APPEARS VERY MINOR OR MAY EVEN BE INVISIBLE BUT THE GLASS MAY CRACK AS A RESULT. IF THE CRACK ORIGINATES OR PASSES THROUGH THE DEICER (LOWER) AREA OF THE WINDSHIELD THEN THIS CONDITION MAY BE THE CAUSE.
