If you encounter any type of electrical concern (e.g, dead battery), interview the customer before proceeding with normal Workshop Manual diagnosis. Aftermarket devices may be the cause of the electrical concern. Ask the customer if any aftermarket devices have been installed. Below are a couple of examples of unusual electrical concerns caused by aftermarket devices.

The Smart City Brake Support (SCBS) system alerts the driver of a possible collision using an indication in the display and a warning sound when the Forward Sensing Camera (FSC) detects a vehicle ahead and determines that a collision with a vehicle ahead is imminent. In addition, the system reduces damage in the event of a collision by operating the brake control when the system determines that a collision is unavoidable. It may also be possible to avoid a collision depending on the relative speed between your vehicle and the vehicle in front of you. In addition, when the driver depresses the brake pedal, the brakes are applied firmly and quickly to assist.

Some customers may notice that the Lane Departure Warning System (LDWS) and High Beam Control (HBC) (amber) warning lights are on when they start driving around dusk or dawn under low temperatures. At that time, the windshield is clear but the lens of the Forward Sensing Camera (FSC) is foggy. The FSC may not function properly under the following conditions: ? Foggy windshield ? Foggy FSC lens ? Heavy rain, dense fog, snow and direct sun light ? No or poor lane markings. When dealing with customer complaints of excessive condensation and/or water within the headlamp unit, first determine if all the bulb sockets (including O-ring), seals and covers are present and correctly installed. In most cases you will find that the Bulb Seal No. 1 (A) or HID Bulb Seal No. 1 (B) and Bulb Seal No. 2 (C) socket covers have not been correctly installed or are missing due to improper prior repairs (i.e., customer replacing the headlamp bulbs or body shop not transferring them when replacing the headlamp unit(s) due to a collision). In accordance with Federal regulations, follow the procedure listed below when replacing a speedometer. NOTE: Tampering with a motor vehicle odometer is strictly prohibited by Federal, and State laws. It is the dealer?s responsibility to comply with Federal, State, and local laws concerning odometerand related documentation requirements when providing a repair or replacement. Mazda vehicles are manufactured with tamper-proof speedometers. When a speedometer is replaced, the new speedometer will read zero (0) miles. This procedure is extremely important to accurately represent actual vehicle mileage. Prior to speedometer removal, complete the information required on the ?SpeedometerReplacement Label?.Labels can only be ordered through Mazda eStore. In an effort to achieve a higher level of Customer Experience and retain the value of Mazda?s vehicles, MNAO Warranty Operations is allowing all Mazda dealers to utilize a third party, SPECMO Enterprises, Inc., for Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) odometer setting service. With the use of SPECMO?s services, a Mazda dealer can get the odometer setting updated to reflect the correct mileage at the time of replacement for both warranty and customer pay repairs, therefore resulting in a higher level of customer satisfaction. Since odometer setting service is not part of the warranty repair, it is not warrantable nor required, but optional. However, Mazda Warranty policy provides after- warranty assistance (AWA) or DSA that can be utilized to cover this service expense.

Some customers may claim that it is impossible or difficult to view the Active Driving Display, even if the position of the display is adjusted through the Settings screen. This is caused by an incorrectly learned zero-point (closed position) of the Active Driving Display. The main reason this happens is because an object (e.g. gloves, paper, etc. ) was placed in the storage area where the mirror and optical receiver are housed. If an object is detected (i.e., jammed) when the Active Driving Display closes after switching the ignition OFF, the system determines this as abnormal and stops the closing operation, leaving the Active Driving Display in an open position. When the engine is started the next time, correction of the zero-point is automatically performed. If the object is still in the storage area during the correction, the system learns the incorrect position as the zero-point. As a result, the zero-point position largely deviates from the standard position; therefore, it becomes impossible to view the Active Driving Display from the normal view position.

However, the warning message will be displayed on the Multi-Information Display (MID) or the center display when FSC lens is foggy. ? The foggy FSC lens may occur at some weather conditions and is not caused by a defect of the parts. When the warning message is displayed, drive the vehicle for 10 minutes or more with the defroster ON to defogthe FSC lens.

WHEN DEALING WITH CUSTOMER COMPLAINTS OF EXCESSIVE CONDENSATION AND/OR WATER WITHIN THE HEADLAMP UNIT, FIRST DETERMINE IF ALL THE BULB SOCKETS ARE RESENT AND CORRECTLY INSTALLED. IN MOST CASES YOU WILL FIND THAT THE BULB SEAL NO. 1 (A) OR HID BULB SEAL NO. 1 (B) AND BULB SEAL NO. 2 (C) SOCKET OVERS HAVE NOT BEEN CORRECTLY INSTALLED OR ARE MISSING DUE TO IMPROPER PRIOR REPAIRS (I.E., CUSTOMER REPLACING THE HEADLAMP BULBS OR BODY SHOP NOT TRANSFERRING THEM WHEN REPLACING THE HEADLAMP UNIT(S) DUE TO A COLLISION). ANY DAMAGE CAUSED BY MISSING SOCKET COVERS, HID MODULE SEAL (D), OR MISSING BUMPER BRACKETS (E) IS NOT COVERED BY WARRANTY POLICY.

SOME CUSTOMERS MAY COMPLAIN THAT IN EXTREME COLD WEATHER CONDITIONS, THE SUNROOF MAY SUDDENLY OPEN BY ITSELF WHEN THE HEATER IS ON. THIS CONCERN MAY BE DUE TO A SHORT IN THE SUNROOF SWITCH (A) CAUSED FROM CONDEN-SATION GENERATED BETWEEN THE ROOF PANEL AND THE SEAL. TO ELIMINATE THIS CONCERN IN THE FUTURE, A PROTECTIVE FILM HAS BEEN INSTALLED TO THE SWITCH AND A PAD INSTALLED TO THE HARNESS.

IF AN ENGINE ASSEMBLY IS REPLACED AFTER A CATASTROPHIC INTERNAL MECHANICAL FAILURE, CLEAN THE INTAKE MANIFOLD INTERNALLY BEFORE INSTALLING A REPLACEMENT ENGINE ASSEMBLY. IF THE INTAKE MANIFOLD IS NOT CLEANED PROPERLY, THE REPLACEMENT ENGINE MAY FAIL PREMATURELY.METALLIC DEBRIS FROM THE OLD ENGINE (WITH CATASTROPHIC INTERNAL MECHANICAL FAILURE) MAY REST INSIDE THE INTAKE MANIFOLD. WHEN THE NEW ENGINE ASSEMBLY IS INSTALLED, DEBRIS IN THE INTAKE MANIFOLD WILL BE INGESTED INTO THE NEW ENGINE AND CAUSE INTERNAL DAMAGE.CLEAN THE INTAKE MANIFOLD INTERNALLY TO REMOVE ANY DEBRIS FROM OLD ENGINE BEFORE INSTALLING THE NEW REPLACEMENT ENGINE ASSEMBLY.IF THE INTAKE MANIFOLD CANNOT BE PROPERLY CLEANED INTERNALLY, REPLACE IT.
