SPEAKER, 6"x9" Right or Left For a buzz, squeak or rattle (BSR) concern coming from the door speaker area please check that when removing the door trim panel, it doesn't come off with the two-stage push-pin clips (in vehicles that have this type of clip, not the ones with a screw) ONLY with its outer clip. If found to have any clip coming with both inner and outer part, please replace the clips with new ones (as old ones might have already been deformed) and reinstall the door trim. Follow Service Library procedure to properly remove/install the door trim. For this issue send feedback via email to FCA Redacted Content. If no response in 15 minutes, proceed with repair. Contact Us for feedback related ONLY to this GPOP Tech Tip. DO NOT email regarding repair procedures unrelated to this Tech Tip or part order inquires. Alternator Assy Prior to alternator removal: 1. Inspect & check all electrical connections to the alternator a. 2-way connector containing field control circuit & alternator sense voltage circuit. b. Unplug & plug-in the 2-way connector for field & sense circuit. Verify the connection is tight & check for any bent pins in alternator connector or damage to female terminals in connector. c. Check Alternator B+ Stud connection to be sure nut is securing positive cable terminal properly (i.e. nut is clamping terminal & connection is tight). d. Check fuse between the alternator B+ stud & PDC terminal to make sure it is not blown. e. Be sure to follow service manual sections on ALTERNATOR CONTROL CIRCUIT DIAGNOSTIC & ALTERNATOR SENSE CIRCUIT DIAGNOSTIC looking for any opens & shorts (to ground or battery voltage). 2. Check/verify all grounds in the charging circuit a. Check tightness of mounting bolts securing alternator to engine block. Alternator is a case ground component. b. Check main ground from engine to chassis; connection must be tight. c. Check battery ground cable connections are tight. d. Potentially, loosen alternator mounting bolts, without removing alternator, and re-tighten to torque specifications in service manual. e. After all steps above are complete, re-start engine & check charging system operation. 3. Verify that the Smart Charging System is not the reason for alternator low voltage & current output (Amps). a. Alternator charging can be suspended during engine idle operation because of the Smart Charge strategy. b. Refer to service manual section "System Operation - Smart Charging System". c. Refer to Star Case S2008000031 Rev A for low charging voltage & Smart Charge Mode Voltage Range diagram & mode descriptions. d. The alternator has no internal regulator; thus, has no smart circuitry. All alternator control signals come from ECM. 4. If alternator is faulty, remove alternator & mounting bolts. Return alternator with bolts to QEC for analysis.

STARTER, Engine Prior to starter removal: 1. Inspect and check all connections to the starter motor solenoid a. Unplug and plug-in the T50 1-way connector as needed to verify the connection is good & tight and check for any bent pin in the connection. b. Inspect the T30 connection (i.e. B+ M8 threaded stud & nut) for tightness to assure cable ring terminal connection is secured and tight (use torque spec per service manual). 2. Check/verify all grounds in the cranking circuit a. Check tightness of mounting bolts that secure starter to the engine block b. Check main ground from engine to chassis c. Check battery ground cable connections are clean and tight d.Potentially, loosen both starter motor bolts, without removing, and re-tighten to torque specifications in the service manual e. After all steps above are complete, attempt to crank the engine to verify if improvement has been made (i.e. the steps fixed the customer complaint) 3. Conduct the voltage drop test (starter feed circuit) per the service manual before removing the starter motor 4. Starter Removal: conduct the removal if above steps do not fix the complaint a. Conduct bench test by applying 12 volts to motor T30 and T50 connections (i.e. conduct simple free speed test) b. Free speed test should result in starter motor pinion travel to pinion stop and rotation with normal rotational noise (i.e. no grinding, scrapping, etc.) c. If any abnormal noise is present, replace the starter motor 5. During starter removal, also remove and replace the two starter mounting bolts. Return the bolts with starter motor for analysis at QEC and the supplier warranty analysis lab.
