This Preliminary Information communication provides information to the technician on a concern of body pressure booming. This concern may be more noticeable when the active fuel management is engages and the engine is in 4 cylinder mode. The roof sheet metal may not be attached to the roof bows any longer. If equipped with a sunroof it may leak or be misaligned with the roof. Technician is to follow the steps to apply vibration control material between the roof bow and the roof sheet metal. Any roof bow that is no longer bonded to the sheet metal must be repaired. Remove the old material with an appropriate tool. Once the old material is removed install the appropriate thickness foam shim to fill the gap between the roof sheet metal and the roof bow. The foam should be placed in 5 inch lengths and placed in 5 locations along the bow using vibration control material to fill the distance between the foam shim. If the space between the bow is 6 millimeters or less just use the vibration control material.

The disc brake pads should only be replaced if the friction surface is worn to within?2.0?mm (0.079?in) of the mounting plates. This Preliminary Information communication provides information to the technician about vehicles that have a Service Engine Soon Malfunction Indicator Lamp. Technician may find Diagnostic Trouble Code P0442. Technician will need to review Techlink article from May 2013 titled "Using the Evaporative Emissions System Tester" Technician will need to follow these steps to help diagnose the issue. First after the P0442 has been verified do not disturb any of the fuel system components. The technician now can use the scan tool to close the Evaporative Emissions System. If possible change the tank pressure sensor units from inch_H2O to milimeter_Hg for better resolution. Now the vehicle can be stared to monitor the tank pressure sensor output value for approximately two minutes. If the tank pressure sensor value does change, pressurize the fuel tank side of the purge solenoid with the GE 41413-A / J 41413-A and the necessary adaptors. Now add smoke and allow pressure to stabilize for 2 minutes. If smoke is allowed to pass through the purge solenoid, replace the purge solenoid. If the tank pressure sensor value does not change, then install CH-48096 adaptor between the purge line from the canister and the purge solenoid. With the Evaporative Emissions System closed, pressurize the system through the CH-48096 adaptor and allow the system to completely stabilize, by observing the Press / Vac Gauge for a minimum of 5 minutes. Now add smoke to the system with GE 41413-A / J 41413-A after system stabilization. Now inspect the purge solenoid, engine side, fuel cap, canister vent solenoid filter and any line quick connects. When the leak is unable to be located, test under a vacuum condition. his type of leak may be detected by using the scan tool Purge/Seal function to create a vacuum in the Evaporative Emissions System and then observe the FTP sensor parameter for vacuum decay.

Information on Inside Rear View Mirror and Camera Loose Some customers may comment that the inside rear view mirror or front camera is loose or that the mirror/camera mounting bracket is loose or has fallen off. If a vehicle is encountered with the above condition, do not attempt to reinstall the bracket onto the windshield. The above listed vehicles have a revised bracket design that is not serviceable. It is necessary to replace the windshield glass assembly. The bracket comes installed on the new glass assembly. Refer to Windshield Replacement in SI.

Clunking Noise from Front of Vehicle During Turns and/or Bumps Some customers may comment on a clunking noise originating from the front of the vehicle that is more predominant during turns or traveling over bumps. This may be caused by a damaged stabilizer shaft frame bracket. There have been some cases in which the bracket is cracked, as shown. This Preliminary Information communication provides information to the technician about vehicles that may have the rear vision camera system displaying "Rear Park Assist Symbols Unavailable" and the steering grid lines displayed do not show. If the vehicle is in reverse, the rear vision camera will display "Rear Park Assist Symbols Unavailable" and does not have Regular Production Option Code UD5 or UD7 the radio must be updated using Service Programming System to correct this concern. Some vehicles may not show steering guide/grid lines displayed in the Rear Vision Camera display. Dealer should communicate to the customer that steering guide/grid lines are not available with this base radio Regular Production Option Code (IO3). Some vehicles while in reverse and the rear park assist system detects an object, the warning triangle symbol is displayed on the wrong side of the radio display. Engineering is aware of the issue and updated radio/tuner calibrations will be released shortly.

Check the body control module ground at the G218 location. The front dash insulator mat may be trapped between the ground eyelet and the body stud. Remove the round nut and eyelet and cut the front dash insulator mat away from the ground stud so it no longer interferes with the ground stud and reinstall the eyelet and ground nut.

Technician may use all published Service Information diagnostics and has not found the cause of the unwanted content theft alarm sounding. Technician should use Global Diagnostic System 2 to review the Body Control Module parameters for "Content Theft Deterrent Trigger History". This is a list of triggers that can cause a content theft alarm sounding. Driver door Passenger door, Left rear door, Right rear door, Rear closure, Tonneau Cover, Hood, Ignition Voltage, Intrusion, Inclination, Telematics enhanced service alarm, Battery reconnect detected, Unauthorized Pulse Width Modulated change, Security Indicates Tamper, and Glass Breakage. If the trigger is an Intrusion inspect for items hanging from the rear view mirror, solar powered dancing characters. When the trigger is a Glass breakage inspect the two rear quarter-panel windows and also in the liftgate glass. The quarter panel windows are attached to the body harness with a connector that looks similar to a 9 volt battery connector inspect them to be fully seated in on the glass. When the trigger is Ignition Voltage/Battery reconnect detected during a cold ambient temperature remote vehicle start event technician should call GM General Motors Technical Assistance Center for further assistance.

This Preliminary Information communication provides information to the technician about being to achieve pre-load when setting up the pinion bearing pre-loads during reassembly of the 9.5/9.76 inch rear axles. Technician will need to use pinion gear install washer part number 11609638 onto the pinion shaft between the flange and nut. Tighten the pinion nut until you achieve 10 pound inch or 1.0 newton rotating torque. After the torque has been achieved back the nut off and remove the washer. Tighten the nut back down until you achieve 15 pound inch or 1.7 newton meters for used bearings or 20 pound inch 2.25 newton meters for new bearings.

Technician will need to use Pico Oscilloscope Diagnostic Kit to effectively diagnosis vehicles. Technician should drive the vehicle will using the Pico Oscilloscope to record data. After the data is recorded it should be reviewed to determine the root cause of the concern. If a repair attempt made the concern better but not eliminated or had no affect at all, and are requesting assistance from General Motors Technical Assistance Center record another Pico file and save it to the computer. After the new Pico Oscilloscope data has been saved email the data to General Motors Technical Assistance Center in the subject line include ?Vibration? ?Business Associate Code? and the last 8 of the Vehicle Identification Number.

This Preliminary Information communication provides information to the technician on how to diagnose and repair vehicles that have a click, rattle or a squeak nose coming from the dash. Technician will use Service Information to locate the Accessory AC and DC Power Control Module located to the right of the steering column. Remove the power inverter module and apply two sided tape to the module bracket to insulate it from the mount. The instrument panel accessory bezel will also need to be removed. Apply flocking tape to the instrument panel accessory bezel retainers. Also the instrument panel extension will need to be removed. Apply foam tape around connectors located under grill to prevent them from rattling on grill. Apply flocking tape to the instrument panel extension retainers and apply a strip of foam tape along the edge of the grill to isolate the grill from the dash.

This Preliminary Information communication provides information to the technician on the step to diagnose and repair the vehicles that may have a shake or shudder during light throttle acceleration, between 30 and 65 mph steady state driving. Also shudder feeling that may be described as driving over rumble strips or rough pavement. Technician will drive the vehicle and monitor the torque converter clutch slip. The torque converter clutch slip speed should be 10 rpm or less also note if the shudder takes place during torque converter clutch apply. If the torque converter clutch slip speed is in the range of 10 RPM or less the condition is possibly related to engine performance. If the shudder is only present in 4 cylinder mode and torque converter clutch slip is 10 rpm or less deem the shudder concern normal characteristic of Active Fuel Management. If the slip speed is beyond 10 rpm or there is shudder during torque converter clutch apply the torque converter will need to be replaced with a updated part number.

Technician may find Diagnostic Trouble Code U0184 stored in multiple modules. If the concern is present at the dealership technician will need to contact General Motors Technical Assistance Center for further assistance if within 4 hours from Warren, Michigan. Technician should remove power from the radio. If the radio starts working with a power cycle advise the customer that we apologize for this inconvenience and that General Motors is working on a permanent solution for this concern.
