Calibration files for the front camera module are incorrect and may cause weak, jumpy, or sporadic steering torque to be applied for Lane Keep Assist (LKA). This Preliminary Information communication provides information to the technician on the steps to diagnose and repair vehicles that may have a no crank concern. Technician will need to check the valve train for movement when the engine is cranked. If the valve train is not moving while the crankshaft is moving the front cover will need to be removed to inspect for a sheared cam sprocket locator pin. If the cam sprocket locator pin has sheared, replace the engine assembly. If the valve train is rotating during inspection, disconnect the Camshaft Position sensor and check if the engine will start. If the engine starts front cover will need to be removed to inspect for a sheared cam sprocket locator pin. If the cam sprocket locator pin has sheared, replace the engine assembly. If the engine does not start with the Camshaft Position sensor disconnected the follow published “Engine Cranks But Does Not Run” diagnosis in Service Information. Also perform an Engine Compression Test and Cylinder Leakage Test in Service Information documents all results. If the Service Information procedures above isolate an engine mechanical concern then removed to inspect for a sheared cam sprocket locator pin. If the cam sprocket locator pin has sheared, replace the engine assembly.

This Preliminary Information communication provides information to the technician about vehicles that the blower motor may be noisy or vibrate when running. This concern will only occur when the temperatures is below 32 degrees Fahrenheit and if the blower motor is removed while still cold, ice may be found on the blower motor cage. This concern could be caused by water leaking or snow ingestion into the Heater-Vent-Air Conditioning case. Technician is to perform normal water testing diagnostics while the Heater-Vent-Air Conditioning is running, looking for water leaking past the plenum cover. If water is leaking past the cover remove the cover and install a 12x12 snow resistant screen to the fresh air intake. Reseal and install the plenum cover cap using Kent air dry sealer or equivalent.

Technician may use all published Service Information diagnostics and has not found the cause of the unwanted content theft alarm sounding. Technician should use Global Diagnostic System 2 to review the Body Control Module parameters for "Content Theft Deterrent Trigger History". If the trigger is an Intrusion inspect for items hanging from the rear view mirror, solar powered dancing characters. When the trigger is a Glass breakage inspect the two rear quarter-panel windows and also in the liftgate glass. The quarter panel windows are attached to the body harness with a connector that looks similar to a 9 volt battery connector inspect them to be fully seated in on the glass. When the trigger is Ignition Voltage/Battery reconnect detected during a cold ambient temperature remote vehicle start event technician should call GM General Motors Technical Assistance Center.

Technician will test to determine if the crank shaft end play is within specification 0.0015–0.0086 inch. If end play is found to be out of specification, remove engine and inspect for possible crankshaft thrust bearing and/or crankshaft for wear. Inspect thrust bearing for wear on one side and crankshaft on that “mating” surface. If the thrust bearing has three vertical channels worn off replace connecting rod bearings, main bearings, thrust bearing and crankshaft. If working on a Corvette the oil tank with lines and oil cooler are both required to be replaced if equipped
