This Preliminary Information communication provides information to the technician about vehicles that have at times the XM Traffic or Weather for the local area takes several minutes to update and may read "NO DATA" or "UPDATING" during that time. Technician should be advised that Traffic and Weather data from local reporting stations and then send the updated info process may take up to 24 minutes. Technician should test for full operation of the XM band if the system has not started receiving the Traffic and weather update within 30 minutes. Also ensure the customer has not shut XM NavTraffic off in the user settings of the navigation radio. Technician will need to contact XM customer assistance to review the account status and verify that the XM Traffic option has been enabled and is available in the area.

This Preliminary Information communication provides information to the technician about vehicles that for no reason the alarm will go active. Technician will need to use a scan tool to verify that the alarm was activated by the inclination sensor. If the trigger is the inclination sensor, inspect the sensor's mounting location. Technician will need to relocate the sensor if it is attached to the driver's side lower Heater-Vent-Air Conditioning duct. Technician will need to reinstall the sensor to the top of the Body Control Module bracket.

Technician will need to check the coolant level, remove serpentine belt to verify noise goes away, rotate the thermostat 90 degrees and retest, then replace thermostat and retest. Technician will replace the water pump if replacing the thermostat does not repair the audible engine whine noise.

This Preliminary Information communication provides information to the technician about vehicles that may have a cold engine tick noise for 50 seconds at start up. Technician determines if the tick noise is possibly coming from the exhaust manifold, as this noise could easily be mistaken for an engine tick noise. If your SI diagnosis does not isolate the cause of this concern, this concern should be considered a vehicle design characteristic of the ECM calibration and no additional repairs should be performed.

Brake Pedal Override Feature ?, transmission busy or frequent shifting up or down. Technician will use this preliminary information to find the brake pedal position data parameters in the scan tool, and also to provide some additional diagnostic help. These issues may be caused by an incorrect brake pedal position sensor input to the engine control module. Technician will verify with the scan tool if the engine control module has the correct parameters for the brake pedal position sensor.

Technician should turn off the ignition and cancel retained accessory power. After the vehicle has powered down, remove power to the OnStar module for five minutes. Technician may find Diagnostic Trouble Codes P0420 and or P0430 stored. Technician should be advised that the catalytic converter efficiency Diagnostic Trouble Codes P0420 and P0430 are disabled for the first hour of engine run time to allow break-in of the catalytic converter. Technician will need to use a Tech2 to check the verify engine run time on the Engine Hour Meter in the Instrument Panel Cluster Data Display/Data 1 List in the scan tool match. If the engine run time is less than one hour, the battery may have been disconnected, or another vehicle power loss event may have occurred, during vehicle manufacturing. Technician will need to clear the Diagnostic Trouble Codes and perform a drive cycle. If the catalytic converter was replaced and the Diagnostic Trouble Codes set it may be a result of the engine run time restrictions no longer being in place since the vehicle is no longer new. Technician will need to clear the Diagnostic Trouble Codes and perform a drive cycle.
