Technician should inspect the ignition key cylinder door sticks in the up position. If the door is found open do not replace the ignition key cylinder, use a Lubriplate type of lubrication spray and lubricate the ignition key cylinder door. Insert the tip of the key in and out to verify the door of the cylinder is not sticking.

This Preliminary Information communication provides information to the technician of diagnostic instructions to take when the key will not fold into the fob or will not stay in the folded position. The technician may comment that the key in the fob will not fold close or stay latched closed. Damage to the folding mechanism could result from storing the key in the door lock cylinder and accidently bumping or making contact with the key fob. Please advise all dealer personnel to refrain from storing the key in the door lock even for brief periods.

There is a unique black plastic oil sleeve that is between the end of the cam actuator and the camshaft. This sleeve directs oil into the actuator to adjust the timing. If the sleeve is damaged or missing, the engine control module cannot control the cam actuator movement and will set the diagnostic trouble codes.

The monitor calculates the percent of oil life remaining, based on 3 pathways. The first pathway for oil life calculation is engine revolutions. The second pathway for oil life calculation is the mileage form the last rest for all General Motors powertrains except the Volt. The third pathway for oil life calculation is the amount of time the oil is in the engine. The Volt uses a 2 year timer instead of 1 year. It also uses the engine revolution counter. It does not use the mileage pathway to count down.

This Preliminary Information communication provides information to the technician on the steps to diagnose and repair vehicles that have excessive oil consumption, blue smoke from the exhaust, or a Malfunction Indicator Lamp. Technician should inspect the PVC orifice for leaking oil or drawing a vacuum at idle. If the PCV orifice external port is leaking oil or vacuum, replace the camshaft cover assembly. Technician will inspect for a missing intake manifold Non Return Valve that may have damaged the PCV orifice diaphragm. Check for the return valve if it is not visible use a long cotton swab to wipe any excess oil from the valve to validate. If the non return valve is still not visible, then intake manifold removal for inspection is required to validate. When the valve is present reinstall the intake manifold. When the valve is not present replace the intake manifold assembly.

This Preliminary Information communication provides information to the technician about vehicles that are travelling from Canada to the United States. While in the United States they are unable to receive Turn-by-Turn directions. Due to the existing cellular provider not having roaming agreements in areas outside of Canada to support transmitting of the packet data required for Turn-By-Turn feature to operate. The customer has 3 options while traveling through the United Sates. First if the vehicle is equipped with a navigation radio they can request a "Destination Download" to the vehicle. Second if the customer uses the OnStar RemoteLink app they can send the directions to the vehicle. The third option would be to have the vehicle loaded with a "500 phone number" The customer will no longer be able to use their Hands Free Calling minutes when the new 500 phone number is loaded.
