This Preliminary Information communication provides information to the technician on the steps need to diagnose and repair vehicles that may have stalling shudder and/or hard shifting into 1st gear or reverse vibration on launch (with excessive crankshaft end play). Technician will test to determine if the crank shaft end play is within specification 0.0015–0.0086 inch. If end play is found to be out of specification, remove engine and inspect for possible crankshaft thrust bearing and/or crankshaft for wear. Inspect thrust bearing for wear on one side and crankshaft on that “mating” surface. If the thrust bearing has three vertical channels worn off replace connecting rod bearings, main bearings, thrust bearing and crankshaft. If working on a Corvette the oil tank with lines and oil cooler are both required to be replaced if equipped

The driver’s and front passenger’s seat belt retractors in certain 2017 model year Chevrolet Silverado Heavy Duty (2500 and 3500 Series) and GMC Sierra Heavy Duty (2500 and 3500 Series) vehicles may have been built with different torsion bars than were used in testing the vehicles for the Government 5- Star Safety Ratings listed on the window sticker. While these vehicles comply with all applicable government safety standards, this condition may affect the Government 5-Star Safety Ratings listed on the window sticker. Changing to Camper Outside Rearview Mirrors Some customers may request to have camper style mirrors installed on their vehicle. The new electrical architecture for the Silverado and Sierra has made swapping mirrors a more involved procedure than with previous models. The recommendation has been divided into three upgrades, depending on which mirrors the truck was built with (RPO DE2, DL8 or DL3). Please follow the correct RPO group below, because not all camper mirrors can be installed on all trucks. After selecting the correct RPO mirror the truck was built with, this PI will aid in determining which camper mirrors can be installed.

Rear View Camera Guidelines Not Present at Times Condition Some customers may report that the Rear View Camera (RVC) guidelines are temporarily not available at times but the RVC will remain on during the concern. Additionally, no related DTCs will be found if this bulletin applies. One example of when this concern may be observed is if a customer quickly starts the car and immediately places the shifter in Reverse while the infotainment system is still in the initial boot up process. Cause This is a result of the RVC image being provided via an alternate robust RVC feed from the Video Bypass Module (NGI systems) or from the radio (BYOM2 and Info 3.0 systems). This alternate robust RVC feed is provided in the event that the primary RVC feed is not available for any reason just to ensure that the RVC image is always present when in reverse. Correction If this concern is experienced and no related codes are present, DO NOT replace any parts as it is normal for the RVC guidelines not to be present when the RVC image being displayed is from the alternate robust RVC feed. If this occurs after quickly starting the vehicle and immediately placing the shifter in Drive, the RVC guidelines can be displayed again in most cases if they are really needed by safely coming to a stop, placing the transmission in Park for a moment, and then shifting to Reverse again.

17357 and 17366 - Service update. General Motors has released four field actions related to a condition in which certain vehicles may have an incorrect torsion bar built into the front seat belt retractors. Vehicles in dealer new inventory were placed on stop delivery earlier this month and the field actions were released as parts become available. This message is being sent to provide a summary of the status of these field actions. Part Numbers - An issue has been reported that some of the belt kit part numbers listed in these bulletins may not be listed in EPC. This makes it difficult to identify which part number to install on the vehicle. We are quickly working to remedy this situation. Until the correction is completed, dealers should verify part number progressions utilizing their parts system resources prior to reaching out for additional assistance. We apologize for this inconvenience and hope to have it corrected soon. Service Update Bulletin 17357 - Applies to certain vehicles.
