Technician will need to use Pico Oscilloscope Diagnostic Kit to effectively diagnosis vehicles. Technician should drive the vehicle will using the Pico Oscilloscope to record data. After the data is recorded it should be reviewed to determine the root cause of the concern. If a repair attempt made the concern better but not eliminated or had no affect at all, and are requesting assistance from General Motors Technical Assistance Center record another Pico file and save it to the computer. After the new Pico Oscilloscope data has been saved email the data to General Motors Technical Assistance Center in the subject line include ?Vibration? ?Business Associate Code? and the last 8 of the Vehicle Identification Number.

If the radio starts working with a power cycle advise the customer that we apologize for this inconvenience and that General Motors is working on a permanent solution for this concern. After the power cycle and the radio is still inoperative record the radio power and ground readings and the voltage on the low speed data line.

The concern is present when coasting at low speeds of less than 15 miles per hour and then aggressively applying the throttle, or after making a hard stop followed by an aggressive throttle. This is considered normal operation of the vehicle the throttle is delayed and opened slowly up to .7 seconds to help minimize driveline lash and clunking or will have approximately .5 seconds of zero torque to allow the transmission to shift to first gear.

Dealer should ask the customer if they noticed this concern to happen after reverse operation, if yes then, no further repairs should be performed. The current Engine Control Module calibration can allow this code to falsely set in reverse as the reverse and first gear ratios are real close numerically. Engineering is currently working on a correction for this concern.

If coolant is found in the cylinder do not replace the cylinder head because that will not repair this concern. This Preliminary Information communication provides information to the technician on the steps need to diagnose and repair vehicles that may have stalling shudder and/or hard shifting into 1st gear or reverse vibration on launch (with excessive crankshaft end play). Technician will test to determine if the crank shaft end play is within specification 0.0015?0.0086?inch. If end play is found to be out of specification, remove engine and inspect for possible crankshaft thrust bearing and/or crankshaft for wear. Inspect thrust bearing for wear on one side and crankshaft on that ?mating? surface. If the thrust bearing has three vertical channels worn off replace connecting rod bearings, main bearings, thrust bearing and crankshaft. If working on a Corvette the oil tank with lines and oil cooler are both required to be replaced if equipped.

This Preliminary Information communication provides information to the technician about the text messaging feature on some newer General Motors infotainment systems. Pair the iPhone to the system then enter the Bluetooth settings menu, select the ?i? icon next to the vehicle name in the device and enable show notifications. The text messaging feature will be available on the next ignition cycle. However with iPhones text messages cannot be responded to when using the infotainment system, they can only be received. For android devices pair the phone to the system during the pairing process the phone will ask you to allow the vehicle to access the device contacts. A second question will pop up on the device asking to allow the vehicle to access the message access profile. Both have to be allowed for the text messaging feature to work.

When using a scan tool if the oil pressure is low but the oil pressure at the oil filter housing is correct, technician should inspect the Valve Lifter Oil Filter for debris/sludge that could be restricting oil flow to the oil pressure sensor. Technician should remove the Valve Lifter Oil Filter and clean it. If the Valve Lifter Oil Filter cannot be cleaned replace it.

Technician should turn off the ignition and cancel retained accessory power. After the vehicle has powered down remove power to the OnStar module for five minutes. After the power has been removed for five minutes, if the OnStar system is working release the vehicle. Technician will need to cycle power to the radio and retest. If the radio starts working advise the customer that we apologize for this inconvenience and that General Motors is working on a permanent solution for this concern. If the radio is still inoperative technician will need to test the power, ground, and circuit 5060 circuits. If no concern with power, ground, circuit 5060 or connections, replace the radio.
