Technician will need to use Pico Oscilloscope Diagnostic Kit to effectively diagnosis vehicles. Technician should drive the vehicle will using the Pico Oscilloscope to record data. After the data is recorded it should be reviewed to determine the root cause of the concern. If a repair attempt made the concern better but not eliminated or had no affect at all, and are requesting assistance from General Motors Technical Assistance Center record another Pico file and save it to the computer. After the new Pico Oscilloscope data has been saved email the data to General Motors Technical Assistance Center in the subject line include “Vibration” “Business Associate Code” and the last 8 of the Vehicle Identification Number.

All involved vehicles, equipped with pickup box delete, may have a condition in which the fuel filler pipe ground strap terminal may not be attached to the vehicle box mount. If the condition is present, a potential electrostatic discharge, generated when refueling the vehicle, may not be grounded, increasing the risk of fuel vapor ignition resulting in a vehicle fire. Dealers will install the fuel filler pipe ground terminal.

This Preliminary Information communication provides information to the technician about vehicles that have poor air conditioning performance above 80 Degrees Fahrenheit. Technician will need to ensure that the system charge is correct. Technician should be advised that engineering has determined that there may be two issues that could cause the concern. First the technician will need to monitor the High and low pressure with manual gauges and Global Diagnostic System 2 monitoring the AC Compressor Solenoid Commanded % in the ECM /HVAC data. If the pressures start to equalize but the Commanded Compressor % returns to 100%, turn off the Air Conditioning using the switch and then turn it back on or shut off the engine and restart it. If system begins to blow cold again and the gauges recover to normal, replace the Air Conditioning compressor. Second the technician should monitor and record the Heater-Vent-Air Conditioning readings. If it is found most of these readings are in specification but the low side pressure is at the low end of that specification and the Evaporator Air Temperature Sensor reads approximately 10 degrees or more higher than the technician should infrared thermometer measure the temperature of the 2 locations, about 2 inches in from the edge of the core of the condenser. f there a difference of more than 10 degrees Fahrenheit top to bottom, replace the condenser.

Some vehicles may have a condition in which a crack in the heating and cooling module temperature door control shaft may form and result in inconsistent air discharge temperature control. If the shaft cracks, the air discharge temperature may be up to 33 degrees Fahrenheit (20 degrees Celsius) cooler than the requested values, depending on the HVAC mode selected. Inspect the temperature valve control shaft for cracks. If the shaft is intact, install a reinforcing clamp around the temperature valve shaft to prevent the shaft from cracking. If more than one crack is present, replace the temperature control valve.

TECHNICIAN MAY THEN CLEAR THE CODES AND RELEASE THE VEHICLE TO THE CUSTOMER, NOTIFYING THEM THAT THE USE OF PREMIUM FUEL MAY TEMPORARILY CORRECT THE CONDITION.
