This Preliminary Information communication provides information to the technician on the steps to diagnose and repair vehicles that may have a no crank concern. Technician will need to check the valve train for movement when the engine is cranked. If the valve train is not moving while the crankshaft is moving the front cover will need to be removed to inspect for a sheared cam sprocket locator pin. If the cam sprocket locator pin has sheared, replace the engine assembly. If the valve train is rotating during inspection, disconnect the Camshaft Position sensor and check if the engine will start. If the engine starts front cover will need to be removed to inspect for a sheared cam sprocket locator pin. If the cam sprocket locator pin has sheared, replace the engine assembly. If the engine does not start with the Camshaft Position sensor disconnected the follow published “Engine Cranks But Does Not Run” diagnosis in Service Information. Also perform an Engine Compression Test and Cylinder Leakage Test in Service Information documents all results. If the Service Information procedures above isolate an engine mechanical concern then removed to inspect for a sheared cam sprocket locator pin. If the cam sprocket locator pin has sheared, replace the engine assembly.

Technician will test to determine if the crank shaft end play is within specification 0.0015–0.0086 inch. If end play is found to be out of specification, remove engine and inspect for possible crankshaft thrust bearing and/or crankshaft for wear. Inspect thrust bearing for wear on one side and crankshaft on that “mating” surface. If the thrust bearing has three vertical channels worn off replace connecting rod bearings, main bearings, thrust bearing and crankshaft. If working on a Corvette the oil tank with lines and oil cooler are both required to be replaced if equipped

Cause - This may be due to outboard aero blockers restricting airflow to the outboard coolers, causing the vehicle to overheat. Correction - If the vehicle is equipped with (RPO V18) outboard coolers and an accessory grille, the grille blockers should not be installed. If installed, they should be removed.

Body Creak Noise from Rear Seat Area Condition Some customers may comment on a creak or "itch" type noise from the rear seat area. The noise may be heard during acceleration, braking or when a twist or load is applied to the vehicle Cause: The noise may be caused by either metal contact between two panels or an insufficient bond between the panels. Correction: Spot weld and/or modify two body panels to correct the condition by following the Service Procedure below.

Intermittent Operation of Key Fobs, Door Unlock Inoperative No Remote Detected Message with Possible TPM MIL Some customers may comment on intermittent loss of Key Fob and/or Passive Entry, Passive Start functions. This may be accompanied with a No Remote Detected message on the DIC. Other symptoms may include: Passive Locking system locking keys in vehicle Push button start system failure to respond (cannot start or stop) with no remote detected message Passive entry system not responding to Lock/Unlock commands System not responding to active FOB key press lock, unlock, hatch/trunk, remote start and panic all inoperative Tire pressure monitor indicator illuminated with DTC's C0750, C0755, C0760 and C0765 with Symptom :29 Too Few Pulses. Cause This may be due to issues internal to the Remote Control Door Lock Receiver.
