Background: Steering intervention helps keep the vehicle in the lane if the system detects that a lane marking has been crossed. NEW ECU VALIDATION NEEDED AFTER REPLACING CERTAIN CONTROL MODULES: With introduction of the new Headunit HU-H3 (MGU Media Graphics Unit), there is a new protection mechanism against tampering. If one or more of the following components needs to be replaced, the secure connection between them must be re-established: MGU TCB Telematic Communication Box (ATM-02) RSE Rear Seat Entertainment and/or KOMBISP18 instrument cluster Prior to re-establishing this connection, an electronic certificate must be created in the BMW backend for importing into the Vehicle. After the replacement of one of the mentioned Modules, the Control Module needs a valid certificate for it to communicate with the other Modules.

INSTRUMENT CLUSTER AND ONBOARD COMPUTER INTERMITTENTLY INOPERATIVE: The audio source, radio station, or music track cannot be changed using the MFL. Normal functionality may possibly return after a sleep cycle or a battery reset. This affects vehicles with: Integration level S18A-18-11-5xx Live Cockpit Professional (option code 6U3) including the instrument cluster High 4.1. While the Kombi is not working properly the rest of the system is working properly. The customer can still use the Central Information Display (CID) for items such as entertainment settings, Driver Experience settings, etc, utilizing the I drive controller. DELIVERY STOP - INSPECT NUTS ON CATALYTIC CONVERTER: BMW AG has issued a Delivery Stop (effective June 23, 2020) on certain Model Year 2020 BMW vehicles that were produced between March 10, 2020 and June 1, 2020. Do not deliver to a customer, a New, Certified Pre-Owned or Used vehicle subject to a Delivery Stop, until the vehicle is repaired. Do not use or sell replacement equipment/parts subject to a Delivery Stop. The nuts holding the catalytic converter to a bracket in the engine compartment may become loose. Over time, this may lead to damage to the exhaust system. The nuts on the catalytic converter bracket in the engine compartment have been incorrectly torqued (19 Nm instead of 28 Nm).

COOLANT LEAK FROM LOW TEMPERATURE COOLING CIRCUIT (N63R): Coolant leaking from the engine compartment. Traces of coolant leaking from the expansion tank of the low temperature cooling system. Aluminum corrosion in the charge air intercoolers, or in the radiator for the low temperature cooling is causing an unfavorable chemical reaction to the coolant.

TOP VIEW CAMERA: IMAGE IS MISALIGNED: The top view image of the vehicle is misaligned when observed in the Control Information Display (CID). When the vehicle is parked in a parking spot with line markings, it is clearly noticed in the CID that the lines are not parallel to the side of the vehicle. This may be noticed on either the driver side, passenger side or both. Side view camera loose fitment in the exterior mirror bracket, causing changes to the top view image.

CREAKING NOISE FROM REAR INTERIOR: A creaking sound can be heard from the inside of the rear of the vehicle on either side, around the rear seat backrests at the floor. Most commonly, this noise is a short series (2 or 3 times) of creaking or popping sounds coming from the area shown below, during acceleration from standstill: Interference between two sheet metal panels just below the rear seat bracket.

SUNROOF WATER LEAK DIAGNOSIS: This bulletin outlines multiple known areas of possible water entry for the vehicles listed above. It serves only as a diagnostic resource in troubleshooting water leak complaints from the roof area. This bulletin does not include all potential areas of water entry from the sunroof. Additional diagnosis may be required for vehicles which are not affected by the scenarios outlined below. B58C AND B58M ENGINES ENGINE OIL FILTER INSERT IS DIFFICULT TO REMOVE - REMOVAL: On rare occasions during an engine oil service the BMW Original (Genuine) engine oil filter insert is either difficult to remove or breaks apart in the oil filter housing. CHECK CONTROL MESSAGE CROSSING TRAFFIC WARNING WHILEPARKING: The check control message (CCM) "Crossing traffic warning. It is possible to continue driving" can appear when parking. This can occur when the vehicle is parked too close to adjacent solid walls such as a single car garage or an underground parking space. The wall can be on either side of the vehicle regardless if the vehicle is pulled in forwards or backed in. If the customer switches the vehicle off and starts it again immediately the same CCM may occur again.

DEACTIVATION OF THE INTERIOR MOVEMENT DETECTOR/TILT ALARM SENSOR IS NOT POSSIBLE: Customer complains that the interior movement detector and the tilt alarm sensor system cannot be deactivated by pressing the lock button on the remote control / BMW display key twice. The second button press on the radio remote control / BMW display key is not detected. SERVICE ACTION - CHECKING THE DUAL STORAGE SYSTEM AND REPLACE IF NECESSARY: In the event of an accident the two-battery Dual Storage System (DSS) is disconnected from the electrical system via an internal relay. WHEN LOCKING VEHICLE DOORS ARE LOCKED BUT VEHICLE IS NOT SECURED: The customer complains that when locking the vehicle from the outside using the remote control: The doors lock The alarm system is not activated The side mirrors (when the function is activated) do not fold in CAUSE Due to a software error on the Body Domain Controller (BDC) it identified the remote control as being inside even though the remote control is actually located outside the vehicle. FALSE WARNINGS THAT THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT IS OCCUPIED WITHOUT THE SEAT BELT BUCKLED: This Service Information Bulletin (Revision 10) replaces SI B72 04 17 dated September 2019. Acoustic and visual warnings indicate that the front passenger seat is occupied and the safety belt is not fastened when the seat is actually unoccupied. If the situation is currently present sit in the seat and move the seat to a slightly different position. The POL (Passenger Occupancy Light) light should now function correctly. In some cases the Air bag Warning Light was illuminated.

COMFORT ACCESS AND COMFORT GO NOT POSSIBLE: This Service Information Bulletin (Revision 1) replaces SI B66 19 19 dated May 2019. Vehicle cannot be unlocked/locked or started via Comfort Access. Remote control functionality is restored by pressing any of the key buttons or by removing and reinstalling the remote control key battery. The Display Key Digital Key and the Digital Key Card are not affected. Electrostatic discharge puts the remote control key into a deep sleep. Various situations can lead to an electrostatic charge which is often not recognized by the customer. For example walking over carpet wearing shoes that have a hard rubber sole positive and negative charges are exchanged. The sole accumulates a negative charge and an electrostatic charge develops before touching the remote control key.

AUTOMATED ACTIVATION OF NAVIGATION SYSTEM DURING PDI/QC1: This Service Information Bulletin (Revision 2) replaces SI B65 22 14 dated October 2015. The INITIAL NAV enabling code no longer needs to be pre-ordered through the Parts department! When the vehicle is connected to the diagnostic system ISTA to perform PDI/QC1 the step to activate the navigation system (part of Delete Transport Mode) will automatically request the INITIAL NAV enabling code (VIN-specific) without pre-ordering the enabling code. This enabling code will be automatically delivered through ISTA and it then activates the navigation system.

On rare occasions during an engine oil service the BMW Original (Genuine) engine oil filter insert is either difficult to remove or breaks apart in the oil filter housing. DME FAULT MEMORY ENTRY FOR THE CRANKSHAFT SENSOR: This Service Information Bulletin (Revision 1) replaces SI B12 04 19 dated February 2019. Technicians may notice this fault logged during a diagnostic session: Fault code: Control module: Fault Text: 160021 DME Crankshaft sensor: general loss of synchronism Environmental conditions are vehicle speed 0 (stationary) and engine speed less than 1500 rpm. There is no customer-facing symptom nor related check control message displayed. Phantom/pseudo fault due to unsuitable DME software. Background: After parking the vehicle and turning off the engine both DME control units go into sleep mode at different times. The DME of cylinder bank 2 ("secondary") goes into sleep mode first The DME of cylinder bank 1 ("primary") is still awake and can experience a reduction in signal voltage for the crankshaft sensor signal This signal change can mistakenly be evaluated as a skipped crankshaft sensor cog by the DME. If the engine is started while the primary DME is still awake this causes a brief loss of synchronization with the secondary DME. Fault 160021 is logged after three (3) consecutive engine starts with this momentary loss of synchronization. Note: Starting the engine after the primary DME has also gone into sleep mode will avoid the loss of synchronization.

MALFUNCTION INDICATOR LAMP IS ILLUMINATED WITH A CRANKSHAFT ADAPTION FAULT: When diagnosing an illuminated malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) and/or a different issue the following faults may also be stored in the Digital Motor Electronics (DME). Fault code Control module Fault code text 213A2B DME Increment wheel adaption faulty This situation is not associated with any drivability complaints and only affects vehicles built with a Factory I-level of 19-07-500 and later. An unfavorable DME diagnostic calibration may cause the fault code to be stored. In most circumstances this will cause the MIL to be illuminated.

TOP VIEW CAMERA: IMAGE IS MISALIGNED. The top view image of the vehicle is misaligned when observed in the Control Information Display (CID). When the vehicle is parked in a parking spot with line markings it is clearly noticed in the CID that the lines are not parallel to the side of the vehicle. This may be noticed on either the driver side passenger side or both. The arrow identifies the line which is shown as not parallel or straight alongside the vehicle. Side view camera loose fitment in the exterior mirror bracket causing changes to the top view image.
