VOLKSWAGEN: HEADLIGHTS MAY INTERMITTENTLY DIM SLIGHTLY AT IDLE. AT IDLE SPEED THE ALTERNATOR VOLTAGE CAN FLUCTUATE, AS THE ALTERNATOR CANNOT FULLY COMPENSATE THE FLUCTUATIONS. SOME ELECTRIC CONSUMERS COME ON IN CYCLES OR HAVE NO CONSTANT CURRENT CONSUMPTION, WHICH AMPLIFIES THIS EFFECT. THE LOAD CONDITION OF THE VEHICLE BATTERY CAN ALSO INFLUENCE THIS EFFECT. VOLKSWAGEN SERVICE CAMPAIGN: SEE DOCUMENT SEARCH BUTTON FOR OWNER LETTER. IN SOME VEHICLES IT IS POSSIBLE THAT A BUSHING INSIDE THE MECHATRONIC UNIT HAS THE POTENTIAL TO WEAR OUT PREMATURELY, CAUSING THE CLUTCHES INSIDE THE TRANSMISSION TO OPERATE LESS SMOOTHLY THAN BEFORE. THE DRIVER WILL BEGIN TO NOTICE CHANGES IN THE WAY THE VEHICLE FEELS AS THE TRANSMISSION SHIFTS (JERKING). THIS CHANGE CAN BECOME VERY PRONOUNCED, THE VEHICLE REMAINS SAFE TO DRIVE. *PE

Tech Tips (with 1K0 Part Number J500 ? Replacement Steering Harness): If the steering rack is replaced on the above models for any reason, it is necessary to replace the steering harness as well. The new harness may be equipped with an extra connector. If all connections are made correctly, then it is necessary to remove that connector and tape the exposed wires back into the harness. Be sure to tape tightly in order to provide a water-tight repair.
