If the odor is noticeable in the vehicle when the engine is not turned on, the cause may be mold and mildew in the passenger compartment, and not be related to the A/C system. If the steering rack is replaced on the above models for any reason, it is necessary to replace the steering harness as well. The new harness may be equipped with an extra connector. If all connections are made correctly, then it is necessary to remove that connector and tape the exposed wires back into the harness. Be sure to tape tightly in order to provide a water-tight repair.

A new MDI cable (?MDI Adapter Cable ? Lightning Charger?) is now available through the VW Accessories eCatalog that is made for use with iPhone 5 variants as well as the previously mentioned iPad/iPod models. This cable should provide full functionality on any vehicle equipped with a UMI (Unified Multimedia Interface). On MY 13 and older vehicles equipped with an MDI, the software level of the MDI must be at or above SW 240 (see Technical Bulletin 2024337) in order to be fully functional.

When replacing the complete vehicle lock set (all vehicle keys and lock cylinders) for any reason, be aware that the ?Adapt keys? test plan will not allow the new keys to adapt to the vehicle. Instead, perform the test plan for ?New identity?. During this test plan, make the appropriate selection to indicate only the lock set has been replaced, as shown below in figures 1 and 2.

The check must be performed with the engine running and heated rear window switched on. Switch OFF the ignition and visually locate the damage. Proceed with checking any other lines as necessary. Technical Bulletin (Oil Consumption Measurement): Customer states oil consumption is higher than the Volkswagen oil consumption standard of up to 0.5 quarts per 600 miles, or 0.5 liters per 1000 km. In order to provide effective lubrication and cooling of internal engine components, all internal combustion engines consume a certain amount of engine oil. Oil consumption varies from engine to engine and may change significantly over the life of the engine. Typically, engines with specified break-in periods consume more oil during the break-in period, and the oil consumption will stabilize after the break-in period.
