All Mazda Connect vehicles in new car inventory must be updated to the software version listed below in this TSB as part of the New Car Ready Step 3 process. Make sure the new vehicle specialist receives a copy of this bulletin. Some vehicles may experience the symptoms mentioned below, which can be fixed with the latest software update (Version 70.00.367 or later). NOTE: For 2016 CX-9 with version earlier than 59.00.441, the tachometer function will be removed from the Active Driving Display as part of Mazda’s continuing efforts to improve safety and reduce driver distraction. Please explain this to the customer before updating the software. If the customer agrees, turn off the tachometer display on the AD-Display tab in MAZDA CONNECT Settings before performing the update.

If you receive a customer concern about the CHECK IN light coming on and DTC P3400 (cylinder deactivation system malfunction) stored, the cylinder deactivation oil control valve may be plugged with plastic debris from the oil filter wrapper. The debris may enter the center of the oil filter when poking a hole in the filter wrapper during removal, and then travel through the engine and plug the cylinder deactivation oil control valve.

Some vehicles may exhibit that the SBS/SCBS warning light (amber) turns ON right after the engine is started with DTC U0420:68 [FSC] stored in memory.  DTC U0420:68 [Forward sensing camera (FSC)]: Error signal received from electric power steering (EPS) control module. For Mazda6 and CX-5, the following error messages may appear in the instrument cluster.  Front camera sensor system malfunction  Forward Smart City Brake Support Malfunction  Driver attention alert system malfunction. This may be caused by the battery voltage falling and the EPS control module failing the initial learning for the steering center position while cranking. The FSC detects the error notified by the EPS control module. To correct this concern, the control software of the EPS control module has been modified while the repair procedure modifies the FSC for earlier repairs in the market.

Some customers may experience the CHECK ENGINE light ON with DTC P2229:00 stored in PCM memory.  P2229:00 (BARO sensor circuit high input). This concern will most likely occur on vehicles that have aftermarket wax applied in the engine compartment. Aftermarket wax applied in the engine compartment may adhere on the breather hole located at the bottom of the PCM, which may collect dust and result in a plugged filter. This breather hole is actually a filter for the air pressure sensor in the PCM. When the PCM gets hot, the internal air pressure may rise due to the plugged filter and result in DTC P2229:00. To eliminate this concern, the shape of the PCM bracket has been modified to not cover the breather hole and eliminate a gap between it and the PCM that may promote the residual liquid wax.

Some customers may complain of a shift shock felt when shifting into 3rd, 5th and/or R range with no A/T related DTC stored. The symptom can be temporarily repaired by A/T initial learning procedure, but may recur after multiple driving cycles. Applicable situations:  Shifting up: 2-3, (4-5)  Shifting down: 4-3, (6-5) NOTE:(4-5) and (6-5) are felt more than others due to the gear ratio.  Shifting into R: D-R, N-R, P-R. Improper control logic of the TCM may cause improper learning of R-3-5 brake engaging speed during certain driving situations. To correct this concern, the control logic of the TCM has been modified.

A valve tapping or knocking noise may be heard from the top end after the engine cools down (the vehicle is parked overnight) or after it has been idling for an extended time. The tapping noise will decreases as the vehicle is being driven or if the rpm is held above 2500 -3000 RPM. This may be caused by the valve Hydraulic Lifters (HLA) bleeding down as the engine cools or when the engine has been idling for an extended period of time, creating excessive valve lash clearance.

Some customers may complain that their seat warmers or seat ventilation do not turn on when the engine is restarted after being left on when turning off the engine. The logic has changed from previous Mazdas where the seat warmers and seat ventilation automatically turned on when the engine was restarted. NOTE: Customers in cold weather are more likely to complain about this if their vehicle is equipped with Mazda Mobile Start (MMS) (not available on Mazda3 or CX-30) because the MMS accessory instructions state the seat warmers WILL turn on when the engine is restarted. The same can happen in the hotter weather with the seat ventilation. This information is incorrect for these vehicles. In accordance with Federal regulations, follow the procedure listed below when replacing a speedometer. NOTE: Tampering with a motor vehicle odometer is strictly prohibited by Federal, and State laws. It is the dealer’s responsibility to comply with Federal, State, and local laws concerning odometer and related documentation requirements when providing a repair or replacement.  Mazda vehicles are manufactured with tamper-proof speedometers.  When a speedometer is replaced, the new speedometer will read zero (0) miles.  This procedure is extremely important to accurately represent actual vehicle mileage.  Prior to speedometer removal, complete the information required on the “Speedometer Replacement Label”. Labels can only be ordered through Mazda eStore.  In an effort to achieve a higher level of Customer Experience and retain the value of Mazda’s vehicles, MNAO Warranty Operations is allowing all Mazda dealers to utilize a third party, SPECMO Enterprises, Inc., for Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) odometer setting service. With the use of SPECMO’s services, it is possible that the odometer will be set between 10 to 31 miles over the odometer mileage at the time of replacement for both warranty and customer pay repairs. Please make sure that the customer is aware that there may be a slight variance to the odometer, in which case the customer may have to accept the slightly higher mileage. Since odometer setting service is not part of the warranty repair, it is not warrantable nor required, but optional. However, Mazda Warranty policy provides after- warranty assistance (AWA) or DSA that can be utilized to cover this service expense.

Due to a changes in the 2018 Mazda6, there are two things to note of when installing the Rear Parking Sensors. 1. When securing the main harness in step 4, DO NOT attach the one tie wrap as shown. There is the possibility of attaching it to the moonroof drain hose and pinching the hose. 2. When routing the sensor harness behind the rear bumper (section 8, Installation of Harness section 2-2) utilizing the 3 mount base positions, the middle mounting base position #2 is located under the Blind Spot Monitoring sensor bracket as shown.

Some vehicles may exhibit a squeak noise from the right front driveshaft at the automatic transaxle when driving. This concern is likely to occur when driving at speeds between 37-50 mph (60-80 km/h) with the ATF at normal operating temperature. The noise is caused by stick/slip between the oil seal at the transaxle and the dust cover of the driveshaft. To correct this issue, the thickness of the dust cover has been increased.
