NHTSA source summary · Original PDF not reviewed by Recallfolio

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has identified the presence of substandard and dangerous driver’s-side airbag inflators manufactured by Jilin Province Detiannuo Automobile Safety System Co., Ltd. (DTN). These inflators were not supplied, approved, or authorized by the vehicle manufacturers and have primarily been found in vehicles that previously experienced a crash and underwent airbag replacement using non-genuine parts. These dangerous inflators have ruptured during deployment, posing a serious risk of injury or death due to metal fragments entering the vehicle cabin. To date, Hyundai is aware of three people who have died while driving a Hyundai vehicle with one of these substandard replacement airbag inflators that deployed in what likely would have been a survivable crash. NHTSA has issued a public advisory urging vehicle owners and service professionals to have vehicles inspected if there is reason to believe that a non-genuine replacement airbag may have been installed. Vehicles with salvage or rebuilt titles, prior airbag deployments, or unknown repair histories may present a higher risk. NHTSA strongly cautions against self-inspection by vehicle owners and recommends inspection by trained technicians.

This bulletin provides important special service instructions to properly repair a vehicle that has been diagnosed to require an Integrated Charge Control Unit (ICCU) replacement, such as required for DTC P1A9096 DC to DC related charging concern or for inoperative AC charging. • The ICCU fuse accessible from a rear side panel of the EV Battery, should NEVER be replaced by itself prior to receiving an ICCU replacement part. • The ICCU fuse should be replaced at the same time as replacing the ICCU part. o The ICCU fuse function is to protect the EV Battery from a damaged ICCU. o DTC P1B77 Power Relay Assy (PRA) damage in the EV Battery can occur when an ICCU fuse is first replaced without also replacing the ICCU together. o Vehicles with P1B77 require Techline approval for field staff involved EV Battery repair and can result in significant additional delay for customers. o Wait to receive ICCU replacement part first before also replacing the ICCU fuse on the rear side of the EV battery. This bulletin also covers how to handle a situation when the nut(s) at the rear of the ICCU fuse falls back into the battery.

This bulletin provides the information to inspect and add the Battery Conditioning function as necessary. Some late 2022MY vehicles may already have the function. The Battery Conditioning function optimizes the DC charging performance of the EV battery when the temperature of the battery is below 68°F (20°C). This function allows the EV battery to preheat prior to arriving at a DC charger site. Once software has been updated, it requires the owner of the vehicle to select a DC charger site as a POI (point of interest) in the vehicle’s navigation system to enable the battery conditioning heating when EV battery is below 68°F. Battery heating impact on DC charging will vary depending on the initial battery temperature and the estimated time to arrive at the POI. If it is possible to enable battery conditioning for longer time prior to departure, it can help to achieve the longer battery heating time needed at very low temperatures, but will temporarily reduce range. Enabling the battery conditioning will use battery power and temporarily reduce the driving range until charging.

Hyundai applies a Paint Protection Film (PPF) on new vehicles before delivery to dealerships. It provides a barrier between the paint and contaminants, such as rail dust, acid rain, and industrial fallout. In rare cases, the paint can become clouded under the PPF. These spots are the result of moisture trapped between the PPF and the paint.

This bulletin provides information regarding condensation related to the accumulated moisture in the headlamp, rear combination lamp, daytime running lamp (DRL), or fog lamp. This TSB illustrates the various causes of condensation inside the lamp assembly. Lamp assembly replacement is NOT necessary in most cases. This condition can be eliminated by turning on the lamps with the engine running for several minutes or during normal driving operation.

Effective June 2, 2008, Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 110 (FMVSS 110) established a threshold for correcting load carrying capacity information indicated on tire placards when vehicle weight has been increased before retail sale. This limit is the lesser of 1.5% of GVWR or 100 pounds. If the total added weight exceeds the lesser of the limit, a label must be added to the driver-side B-pillar within 25mm (1 inch) of the original tire placard.
