NHTSA source summary · Original PDF not reviewed by Recallfolio

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has identified the presence of substandard and dangerous driver’s-side airbag inflators manufactured by Jilin Province Detiannuo Automobile Safety System Co., Ltd. (DTN). These inflators were not supplied, approved, or authorized by the vehicle manufacturers and have primarily been found in vehicles that previously experienced a crash and underwent airbag replacement using non-genuine parts. These dangerous inflators have ruptured during deployment, posing a serious risk of injury or death due to metal fragments entering the vehicle cabin. To date, Hyundai is aware of three people who have died while driving a Hyundai vehicle with one of these substandard replacement airbag inflators that deployed in what likely would have been a survivable crash. NHTSA has issued a public advisory urging vehicle owners and service professionals to have vehicles inspected if there is reason to believe that a non-genuine replacement airbag may have been installed. Vehicles with salvage or rebuilt titles, prior airbag deployments, or unknown repair histories may present a higher risk. NHTSA strongly cautions against self-inspection by vehicle owners and recommends inspection by trained technicians.

These inflators are not approved for use, may rupture during deployment, and have caused serious injuries and fatalities. Please see attached announcement, provided by NHTSA, for more details.

This bulletin outlines the basic components of the BG Fuel Test Kit and the procedure to test the quality of the fuel during vehicle diagnosis. Poor fuel quality may lead to cold engine startability issues, hesitation at idle or during acceleration, and/or poor driveability. In addition, prolonged vehicle operation with poor quality fuel may result in damage to the fuel system and formation of engine deposits. The BG Fuel Test Kit can be used to determine the following aspects of the fuel: • Sediment / Water Contamination Inspection • Specific Gravity • Alcohol Content

Hyundai applies a Paint Protection Film (PPF) on new vehicles before delivery to dealerships. It provides a barrier between the paint and contaminants, such as rail dust, acid rain, and industrial fallout. In rare cases, the paint can become clouded under the PPF. These spots are the result of moisture trapped between the PPF and the paint.

The Blind Spot Detection (BSD) or Blind-Spot Collision Warning (BCW) is a system that measures the speed of and distance from the following vehicles by using two magnetic wave radar sensors attached in the rear bumper. The BSD/BCW detects vehicles within the blind spot zone and gives off an alarm (visual and audible). The two magnetic radar sensors provide these functions for BSD/BCW: ? Senses other vehicles in the BSD/BCW zone and turns on the BSD/BCW warning lamp for the driver. The warning lamp starts blinking, along with an audible sound, when the driver turns on the turn signal lamp to enter the lane where another vehicle is driving.

The front seat belt assembly incorporates a seat belt anchor pretensioner fastened to the vehicle's front seat frame. During vehicle assembly, the anchor pretensioner is fastened to the front seat frame prior to being connected to the seat belt linkage. If, during vehicle repair, the connector does not fully latch when the linkage was pressed onto the connector, the seat belt can detach from the anchor pretensioner. If the seat belt linkage detaches from the anchor pretensioner in a collision, the risk of injury to the occupant is increased.
