Clunking Noise from Front of Vehicle During Turns and/or Bumps Some customers may comment on a clunking noise originating from the front of the vehicle that is more predominant during turns or traveling over bumps. This may be caused by a damaged stabilizer shaft frame bracket. There have been some cases in which the bracket is cracked, as shown. This condition has been found to be the result of insufficient welds between the bracket and frame rail. There have been some cases on older vehicles of corrosion affecting the bracket

OnStar® Voice Fallback Number Update Some customers may have received a letter from OnStar® stating that "We recently tried to provide a software update to the OnStar® hardware in your vehicle. However, your system could not be updated remotely. As a result, some of your OnStar® system functions may not be working as expected." The customer is further instructed in this letter to "Please contact your dealer or any dealer near you as soon as possible to schedule an appointment for this no-cost software update. Your dealer will reprogram your OnStar® module with an update. This is for vehicles that have previously received the Canada upgrade as described in Service Bulletin #15-08-44-001F."

This Preliminary Information communication provides information to the technician about vehicles that have an OnStar system that will not power up. Technician should turn off the ignition and cancel retained accessory power. After the vehicle has powered down remove power to the OnStar module for five minutes. After the power has been removed for five minutes, if the OnStar system is working release the vehicle. If the OnStar system is still inoperative continue with published Service Information diagnostics.

This Preliminary Information communication advises the technician about the calculation and operation of the engine oil life monitor. The monitor calculates the percent of oil life remaining, based on 3 pathways. The first pathway for oil life calculation is engine revolutions. The second pathway for oil life calculation is the mileage form the last rest for all General Motors powertrains except the Volt. The third pathway for oil life calculation is the amount of time the oil is in the engine. The Volt uses a 2 year timer instead of 1 year. It also uses the engine revolution counter. It does not use the mileage pathway to count down.

14648 - Customer Satisfaction Program. Certain 2008-2010 model year General Motors vehicles have a performance issue with their OnStar modules that could impact the vehicle?s battery life. If the vehicle?s OnStar module contains this condition, the OnStar green telltale light will be illuminated even when the vehicle is off. This condition can drain the vehicle?s battery if the vehicle is not started for approximately four days. The condition may also render the OnStar system inoperative, which would disable all OnStar services, including automatic crash response and emergency roadside services. This condition can occur even if the vehicle is not actively subscribed to OnStar. Dealers are to remove the fuse for the OnStar module to reset it.

TECHNICIAN WILL FOLLOW SERVICE INFORMATION DIAGNOSIS FIRST. IF SERVICE INFORMATION DIAGNOSIS DOES NOT ISOLATE THE CAUSE OF THIS CONCERN PERFORM A CYLINDER DEACTIVATION ACTIVE FUEL MANAGEMENT SYSTEM COMPRESSION TEST IN SERVICE INFORMATION. IF THE RUNNING COMPRESSION OF THE MISFIRING CYLINDER STAYS BELOW 25 POUNDS PER SQUARE INCH REGARDLESS OF THE ACTIVE FUEL MANAGEMENT SOLENOID BEING COMMANDED ON OR OFF, AN ACTIVE FUEL MANAGEMENT LIFTER IS MECHANICALLY COLLAPSED/STUCK OR UNLOCKING AS SOON AS THE ENGINE IS STARTED. REPLACE ALL ACTIVE FUEL MANAGEMENT LIFTERS, AND ALL PLASTIC LIFTER GUIDES. ALSO PERFORM THE CYLINDER DEACTIVATION ACTIVE FUEL MANAGEMENT VALVE LIFTER OIL MANIFOLD DIAGNOSIS AND TESTING IN SERVICE INFORMATION. IF IT ISOLATES A CONCERN WITH THE VALVE LIFTER OIL MANIFOLD, REPLACE IT AND REEVALUATE THE CONCERN. THE ACTIVE FUEL MANAGEMENT LIFTERS CAN ALSO BE MONITORED FOR PROPER OPERATION BY CAREFULLY INSPECTING THE CYLINDER 1, 4, 6, AND 7 ROCKERS AND VALVES WHILE CRANKING OR BRIEFLY AND SAFELY RUNNING THE ENGINE WITH THE VALVE COVERS REMOVED. IF THE VALVE OR VALVES OF AN ACTIVE FUEL MANAGEMENT CYLINDER STOP MOVING WHILE DOING THIS TEST, THE ACTIVE FUEL MANAGEMENT LIFTER IS CAUSING THE CONCERN. FOR 2008-2009 FULL SIZE TRUCK/SUV OR A 2007-2009 CHEVROLET TAHOE WITH THE POLICE PACKAGE REPROGRAM THE ENGINE CONTROL MODULE. ON THE 2008-2009 PONTIAC G8, 2010-2011 CAMARO, AND 2007-2010 FULL SIZE TRUCKS WITH ACTIVE FUEL MANAGEMENT, ALSO DETERMINE IF THE ACTIVE FUEL MANAGEMENT PRESSURE RELIEF VALVE SHIELD THAT IS LISTED IN THE LATEST VERSION OF 10-06-01-008 HAS EVER BEEN INSTALLED.
