This may be caused by a seized or sticking A/C clutch. This can be repaired by replacing only the A/C clutch (19D786/19D784). The compressor assembly (19703) may not be required. Refer to Workshop Manual, Section 412-00 for A/C clutch removal. It may be necessary to lightly tap around the stuck area of the clutch with a rubber mallet to free it from the pulley for removal. Refer to applicable labor operations from Section 11 of the SLTS maunual when replacing the A/C clutch.

On SYNC systems without touchscreen, this DTC flag cannot be configured off, therefore the DTC may set when running an On-Demand Self Test on the APIM. If the DTC is present after an On-Demand Self Test and the customer reports no USB related symptoms, then no further repairs should be attempted. If the customer reports symptoms with USB operation refer to Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 415-00 for normal diagnostics.

This may be due to a engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor connector which is not fully seated or damaged wiring between connectors C1064 and C1047 for F150 and C1016 and C1168 for Edge/MKX/Fusion/Continental vehicles. ECT sensors should not be replaced if damaged wiring is found at or near these connectors. If an issue with the wiring is found use causal part 12A699.

Some vehicles may exhibit a no start condition with an illuminated malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) and a DTC P161A after PCM replacement. This may be due to the parameter reset procedure not being properly completed. To clear this DTC, use the Ford Integrated Diagnostic System (IDS) service tool or Ford J2534 Diagnostic Software, select - Toolbox - Body - Security - PATS Functions - Parameter Reset. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the procedure. This procedure will transfer the existing Key ID information between the modules without the need of having 2 programmed PATS keys present. There is no need to program keys when the PCM is going to be replaced. Additional information can be found in the Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 419-01. Missing or lost keys are not warrantable.
