This Preliminary Information communication provides information to the technician about vehicle that may have a Service Engine Soon Malfunction Indicator Lamp on, running rough, or lack of power about 4000 Revolutions per minute. Technician will need to follow the owner's manual for proper engine oil filling procedures. For vehicles with 7.0L engine Regular Production Option Code LS7 models, also review the latest version of 05-06-01-032. Technician should also perform the Crankcase Ventilation System Inspection/Diagnosis. If the vehicle is equipped with an oil tank, ensure that the semi-fresh and fresh PCV tubes are installed correctly. Also the technician should clean any excessive oil from the air intake system and inspect the hydrocarbon absorber in the air intake snorkel.

This Preliminary Information communication provides information to the technician of a complaint of a sag or hesitation when accelerating. The concern is present when coasting at low speeds of less than 15 miles per hour and then aggressively applying the throttle, or after making a hard stop followed by an aggressive throttle. This is considered normal operation of the vehicle the throttle is delayed and opened slowly up to .7 seconds to help minimize driveline lash and clunking or will have approximately .5 seconds of zero torque to allow the transmission to shift to first gear.

This Preliminary Information communication provides information to the technician on the steps to diagnose and repair vehicles that may have a no crank concern. Technician will need to check the valve train for movement when the engine is cranked. If the valve train is not moving while the crankshaft is moving the front cover will need to be removed to inspect for a sheared cam sprocket locator pin. If the cam sprocket locator pin has sheared, replace the engine assembly. If the valve train is rotating during inspection, disconnect the Camshaft Position sensor and check if the engine will start. If the engine starts front cover will need to be removed to inspect for a sheared cam sprocket locator pin. If the cam sprocket locator pin has sheared, replace the engine assembly. If the engine does not start with the Camshaft Position sensor disconnected the follow published ?Engine Cranks But Does Not Run? diagnosis in Service Information. Also perform an Engine Compression Test and Cylinder Leakage Test in Service Information documents all results. If the Service Information procedures above isolate an engine mechanical concern then removed to inspect for a sheared cam sprocket locator pin. Technician verifies there are no Diagnostic Trouble Codes are present in the Antilock Braking System and Vehicle Communication Interface Module of the vehicle.
