This condition may be caused by the Clutch Select Solenoid Valve 2 (359), located in the lower valve body, sticking in its bore resulting in a 4th gear start. Technician will need to use Pico Oscilloscope Diagnostic Kit to effectively diagnosis vehicles. Technician should drive the vehicle will using the Pico Oscilloscope to record data. After the data is recorded it should be reviewed to determine the root cause of the concern. If a repair attempt made the concern better but not eliminated or had no affect at all, and are requesting assistance from General Motors Technical Assistance Center record another Pico file and save it to the computer. After the new Pico Oscilloscope data has been saved email the data to General Motors Technical Assistance Center in the subject line include ?Vibration? ?Business Associate Code? and the last 8 of the Vehicle Identification Number.

This Preliminary Information communication provides information to the technician on the steps to diagnose and repair vehicles with a rattle, tick, or knock type noise. Technician will use chassis ears to listen to the right and left side of the engine and isolate which bank the noise is from. Technician should now remove the piston and rod assemblies from the affected bank to inspect for a loose rod bushing in the rod, or a loose wrist pin in the bushing. There should be no metal through the oil and a piston and rod assembly will repair this noise. If technician finds metal refer to the latest version of PIP5216. If no wrist pins or bushings are found loose and all other diagnostics for this type of noise has been exhausted then engine replacement may be necessary.

The transmission control module or engine control module may not communicate with the scan tool. This could be caused by unseated pin or pins in the transmission connector. The technician should inspect the transmission connector X1 terminals by disconnecting it and carefully tugging on each wire to ensure the pins are fully seated. On the Cadillac ATS and CTS only the check the harness securing bracket on the passenger side of the vehicle were the transmission bell housing is attached to the engine block the harness should hang below the securing bracket. The harness should also be checked for chaffing.

This Preliminary Information communication provides information to the technician about vehicles with a CD player is inoperative. Technician should cycle power to the CD play and retest. If the CD player starts working advise the customer that we apologize for this inconvenience and that General Motors is working on a permanent solution for this concern. If the CD player is still inoperative technician will need to test the power and ground circuits. If no concern with power, ground, or connections, replace the Disc Player.

Technician may find Diagnostic Trouble Code P0521. If Diagnostic Trouble Code P0521 setting in cold weather and it has a PF48E oil filter, change the filter to a UPF48R if one is available.

Technician will inspect the oil control solenoids for metal debris. Also inspect for damage to the cam caps Journals and camshaft journals on the heads. The check the timing chain idler sprockets for stiffness when turning. If any of these instances would be a cause to replace the engine instead of repair.

Technician will use Global Diagnostic System 2 to review the Firmware Over-the-Air version. If the Firmware Over-the-Air version on the scan tool equals 6708 the technician will need to contact General Motors Technical Assistance Center for further assistance. If the Firmware Over-the-Air version on the scan tool is lower than 6708 Dealer can order the part thought the Instrument Sales and Service website process.
