Technician should turn off the ignition and cancel retained accessory power. After the vehicle has powered down remove power to the OnStar module for five minutes. After the power has been removed for five minutes, if the OnStar system is working release the vehicle. This Preliminary Information communication advises the technician to follow this Preliminary Information if there is a diagnostic trouble code P00C6 and or P228C set and normal Service Information diagnostics didn?t lead to a repair. Technician is to recheck the terminals at the Engine Control module for fit and tension as well as the crimp to the wire. The engine control module terminals to inspect are in the X2 connector. Inspect terminal number 3, 18 and 19 for the fuel rail pressure sensor and in the X3 connector terminals 16 and 32 for the high pressure fuel pump. The diagnostic trouble codes could set with as little as a 2 ohm resistance reading on these circuits. If any concerns are found replace the affected terminals and verify the repair.

The Transmission Control Module or Engine Control Module may not communicate. With Diagnostic Trouble Codes C0242, C0561, P0575, P0615, P0700, P0856, P1629, P2544, U0073, U0074, U0100, U0109, U0121, U0140, U2100, U2105, and / or U2106 stored. The technician is to inspect the transmission X1 connector terminals for loose or poor fit. Disconnect the X1 connector and carefully tug on each wire to insure pins are fully seated. A side load on the wires may also cause a false positive lock. Technician is to repair the connections as necessary.

This Preliminary Information communication provides information to the technician when the customer comments that their digital vehicle speed display is showing a different speed than the analog vehicle speed display. There may be up to 2 miles per hour difference between the digital and analog vehicle speed displays. This is a normal condition due to the calculation tolerances being different for the two driver viewing angles for the analog speedometer; it may also appear to increase the difference between both displays. No part replacement is required as this is a normal operating characteristic of the vehicle. For CTS vehicles built between April and June of 2011 or the 2013 ATS, SRX, XTS built before August 29 2012 may have a 3 mile per hour or more variation. The technician is to replace the instrument panel cluster for this concern.

Technician will need to use the scan tool to check Manufactures Enable Counter. If the number is anything other than zero the Manufactures Enable Counter will need to be reset. To reset the Manufactures Enable Counter counter, the ignition key can be cycled the number equal to the Manufactures Enable Counter counter.

This Preliminary Information communication advises the technician about the calculation and operation of the engine oil life monitor. The monitor calculates the percent of oil life remaining, based on 3 pathways. The first pathway for oil life calculation is engine revolutions. The second pathway for oil life calculation is the mileage form the last rest for all General Motors powertrains except the Volt. The third pathway for oil life calculation is the amount of time the oil is in the engine. The Volt uses a 2 year timer instead of 1 year. It also uses the engine revolution counter. It does not use the mileage pathway to count down.

This split injection strategy lasts for about 60 seconds on cold start. This process may cause the customer to see increased black smoke during cold start and should be considered normal.

14648 - Customer Satisfaction Program. Certain 2008-2010 model year General Motors vehicles have a performance issue with their OnStar modules that could impact the vehicle?s battery life. If the vehicle?s OnStar module contains this condition, the OnStar green telltale light will be illuminated even when the vehicle is off. This condition can drain the vehicle?s battery if the vehicle is not started for approximately four days. The condition may also render the OnStar system inoperative, which would disable all OnStar services, including automatic crash response and emergency roadside services. This condition can occur even if the vehicle is not actively subscribed to OnStar. Dealers are to remove the fuse for the OnStar module to reset it.

This Preliminary Information communication provides information to the technician about vehicles that are travelling from Canada to the United States. While in the United States they are unable to receive Turn-by-Turn directions. Due to the existing cellular provider not having roaming agreements in areas outside of Canada to support transmitting of the packet data required for Turn-By-Turn feature to operate. The customer has 3 options while traveling through the United Sates. First if the vehicle is equipped with a navigation radio they can request a "Destination Download" to the vehicle. Second if the customer uses the OnStar RemoteLink app they can send the directions to the vehicle. The third option would be to have the vehicle loaded with a "500 phone number" The customer will no longer be able to use their Hands Free Calling minutes when the new 500 phone number is loaded. If a customer chooses to restore Hands Free Calling in the future a new phone number will be assigned to the vehicle; previous phone numbers are not available.
